From the Bride…My wedding day was dreamy and calm. I know ‘calm’ seems like a strange choice, but, after ten months of organizing and crafting, there wasn’t much left to worry about. As exciting as all the planning and prep was for the big day, when it arrived, I just wanted to get married and celebrate with my friends and family! Luckily, the weather was beautiful that day and that’s exactly what we were able to do. We had a quick ceremony out by the lake, officiated by my dad, then we went inside for food, drinks and lots of dancing!
My husband and I love running around White Rock Lake. We trained for our first half-marathon at White Rock, so the whole trail was inspiring for a wedding. Our venue in particular, The Filter Building, had the perfect 1920s style and lake views I was looking for. Once we got engaged I was prepared to schedule everything around The Filter Building’s availability.
My dress had a unique vintage vibe that I thought would stand out against the industrial backdrop. I’d been stalking some Tadashi Shoji styles online and sure enough, BHLDN added my favorite pick to their latest line of wedding dresses. I was obsessed. The details were lovely and the price was right. My earrings were borrowed from my mother, who shares my love of yellow gold.
Spring also meant all my favorite florals would be in season, including a blueish teal flower called Sea Holly. My florist made that recommendation very early on and they were stunning! I ordered floral pieces for every table, the bar, the cake, my head and our wedding arch and I don’t regret it. Flowers just make me so happy! I also got really into ferns while planning. They’re just so geometric and charismatic for a plant. Who can resist?
I’m extremely proud of my grandpa’s contribution of hand-crafted table numbers and a cake topper. At 85 years old he still creates amazing things out of wood! And, as a bonus, I’ll be able to decorate our future home with these wooden accents. I can’t wait to show them off a bit more. I hand addressed all of our invitations and Save-the-Date envelopes. The escort cards were also my doing. I wasn’t great at hand-lettering before, and still don’t quite have it down, but it was a fun way to save money and finish some crafts on my own. We also recycled some of our unloved vinyl records to use as our guest book. The groomsmen’s bow ties and the bridesmaids’ earrings were an Etsy find.
