From the Bride… Coomzy wanted an outdoor wedding in the country and I wanted an indoor wedding in Melbourne, so we settled on a clearspan marquee at Collingwood Children’s Farm, which was the best of both worlds. We both like to party and have a good time, so we wanted to create a carefree and relaxed environment for our guests. The setting was very country and rustic but the styling was chic. We went for some amazing green succulents for the table centres mixed in with real pineapples. We did all of the styling ourselves (with help pulling it together on the day by Stylism) from painting each pot, to the kind of lights, to the style of bar – basically creating a venue from scratch which is an absolutely monumental task but well worth it in the end!
David and I both had seven of our friends to each to our houses on the morning to get ready. They were our unofficial bridal party – with us all day, but not with the same outfits! We had a Bedeken (a Jewish tradition where the groom checks his bride to make sure it’s the right person) to start our day. This was the first time we had seen each other in a week, so it was very emotional with tears of joy all round. The entire bridal party, with our immediate families, then headed to Collingwood Children’s Farm on a bus where we had some photos. David loves cars, so he organized a white 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air for me and my parents, which really set the tone for the day. An hour before our Chuppah (Jewish wedding ceremony) was to begin it started to pour with rain! We had factored in extreme heat in February, but not rain. It was a disaster and thank god I was hidden away in a room and David had to deal with making the call on whether to keep the ceremony outside or bring it into the marquee. We delayed the ceremony by 15 minutes and thankfully the rain cleared just in time for it to remain outdoors as we had imagined it. Rain on your wedding day is good luck, so they say! Cocktails and canapés were served right after the ceremony outside the open marquee and then the night began with the ‘hora’ – traditional Jewish dancing. This creates an amazing energy for the rest of the night, which was filled with some candid speeches, delicious food (catered by the absolutely amazing Fred + Ginger) and lots of dancing. We had DJ Mafia spinning tunes for us and her last track was the John Farnham classic “You’re The Voice” – it was epic!!
