From Isari Flower Studio… Sarah and Brian, both raised on the East Coast, knew they wanted to get married by the beach, so their country-wide search began to find the perfect location. From Portland Maine to Southern California, they knew they found the perfect spot when they discovered the Martin Johnson House, tucked away in La Jolla, Ca. It was rustic, elegantly simple, overlooked the ocean and the perfect size for their intimate guest list.

Sarah, an event manager by day, had a clear vision for this big day, but with the distance from Pennsylvania, she had to call upon First Comes Love and Isari Flower Studio to bring it to life. She wanted to create the “best backyard party” environment using natural elements and bright pops of color, while incorporating touches that were reflective of her and Brian.

The wooden farm tables quickly became an integral part of the décor as one of the couple’s passions is gathering loved ones for great food and libations, so it came as no surprise that designing their menu was one of their favorite parts of the wedding planning process. Inspired by the farm to table movement, they called upon Chef Barry at Coast Catering to help them create a custom menu reflective of them. To nod to Brian’s hometown, they served New England style fare consisting of oysters and lobster rolls during cocktail hour, and guests sipped on “The Rickey”, the couple’s signature cocktail that hails from Washington DC (the location where Brian proposed to Sarah). They also had fun creating a “grazing station” on wine barrels featuring an array of fruits and cheese because you doesn’t love cheese?! As guests were ready to dine on their main course, they were treated to Sarah’s favorite dish: a trio of pork, locally grown grilled vegetables and mac & cheese. To polish off the menu, sweet-tooth Sarah took the reigns and chose delectable pies and other mouthwatering treats from the always satisfying Elizabethan Desserts.

Sarah was also very involved in the overall design of the wedding. She knew bright pops of color were important for this summer wedding, so she called on Isari Flower Studio to help bring her vision to life. After sharing ideas and inspirations, a beautiful tablescape was created. Lace runners lined each wooden farm table and an eclectic collection of crystal cut glass overflowing with gorgeous blooms spotted each table. Gorgeous peonies, dahlias and garden roses in a variety of hues were the focal point of many arrangements, while pin cushion proteas, billy balls, dusty miller and succulents added texture and interest to these non-matching tablescapes. The final additions were bible verse wood slabs that were made by a friend of the couple, who also happened to be their officiant. (He even made the favors for the guests too!)

All of these details totally made this wedding reflective of the couple’s personalities, and the intimate setting consisted of only those very near and dear to their hearts. This special day was the best day of their lives and as Sarah said, “I wish we could hit rewind and be a guest at our wedding.”
