Oh, do I love a good proposal story. And when it involves being serenaded with a ukelele and a song written just for you? At Lover’s Cove in Catalina? Well, folks it doesn’t get much better than that. So it’s no surprise these two lovebirds followed it up with a sweet beach e-sesh with Betsi Ewing. See the whole thing right here!
From the future Bride, Katrina… When Kaya suggested taking an overnight trip to Catalina for my twenty-fifth birthday, I was so excited. We had visited the island years before with friends and loved it. We began the day with champagne on the ferry, and upon our arrival, he surprised me with a couple’s massage. After spending the afternoon exploring the island we took a walk to Lover’s Cove, aptly named for its stunning view of the harbor. Kaya had his ukulele with him (as he usually does), and he told me that he had written a song for me. Kaya is an amazing musician, and he often lets me hear new songs he’s working on so I wasn’t at all suspicious. Although he seemed uncharacteristically nervous—a stark contrast to his standard cool and confident demeanor.
The sun was setting over Avalon as he began to play, and in hearing the first few lines I realized that it was a song about us! I immediately smiled and started dancing along as I listened to him recount what we’d been through in the past two years, and how our love could endure anything. I had tears in my eyes and the biggest smile on my face. Then came the last line. My heart skipped a beat as he sang: “So tell me Miss Katrina, will you marry me?” I was so surprised that I wasn’t even sure if it was a proposal or just VERY coincidental lyrics. Then, he got down on one knee, took out the beautiful ring that he had designed for me, and told me that he would love nothing more than for me to be his wife.
We will be returning to “the island of romance“ in a few short weeks – one year after that perfect evening at Lover’s Cove—to tie the knot in front of our families and friends. We cannot wait to celebrate with everyone and begin our lives together, starting with our honeymoon in Thailand!
