Rustic Apple Barn Farms Wedding

There’s nothing that says ‘cozy’ more than a rustic, DIY farm wedding. Homemade jam favors and s’mores, handwritten wooden signs, the sweetest pup ever and hayrides followed by a bonfire… feeling warm and fuzzy yet? There’s a whole lot more from Julia Newman in the gallery!

From the beautiful Bride… Although we live on Long Island, we didn’t want a traditional Long Island catering hall wedding. So we headed north of the city to Dutchess County, NY and found a perfect, 2-story rustic barn at Apple Barn Farms. Most of the wedding was ‘DIY’ and was truly a family affair. My aunt and Godmother created every single centerpiece, bouquet and boutonniere by hand.

As a graphic designer, I created the church programs, brunch invites, wedding monogram and thank you tags for the favors. The wedding favor was homemade jam from a local farm in small masonry jars with cloth decorative rag-tops. The brown bags that held the jam were hand stamped with the couples wedding monogram. My father made table numbers out of cut logs. He also hand crafted log candle holders and our ‘Mr. & Mrs.’ sign, the M&M Wedding sign (which was made from an old wooden pallet) and the chicken wire frame that held the photo collage of the couple. The cake stand was a 2 inch diameter tree log that was cut by the Bride’s uncle. Sections of recycled white picket fence was used for pinning up old family photos.

A very special detail was the handmade handmade ‘tuxedo’ scarf worn by our chocolate lab, Marley, and made by the Bride’s Mother. Our 240 guests enjoyed a photobooth, hay rides during cocktail hour and a bonfire at the end of the night, with homemade s’mores. The incredible green grounds surrounding the barn allowed for the guests to spread out and explore throughout the evening. Julia Newman’s unique photography style captured the beauty and simplicity of the day.
