As a West Coaster, I’ve never actually ventured to the Hamptons (I know, it’s a total travesty), but judging from this gorgeous Montauk affair, it’s exactly where I want to get married. Because if my wedding day is even one tenth as glamorous and gorgeous as this stunning day is, I’ll consider myself seriously blessed. From the Bride… For years Montauk has been our favorite place to escape to. We live in Manhattan but find ourselves venturing out there as often as we can. Having vacationed there for many years with his family, Richie introduced me to “The East End” the first year we started dating and I was immediately smitten. There is something about being out east, especially on the cliffs of Montauk, that makes you feel as though you are at the end of the earth. It’s awe-inspiring and magical. Richie proposed to me at the base of the cliff at Montauk’s lighthouse. So when the time came to start planning our wedding, we knew “The East End” was the perfect spot — we felt like it represented us equally and we were eager to share such a special place with our family and friends.
Our wedding ceremony was held at St. Therese of Lisieux in Montauk, a beautiful airy church that overlooks both the village of Montauk and the ocean. Our reception was held in East Hampton at really neat venue, East Hampton Point. Originally East Hampton was not at all part of our plan, but that quickly changed with our first visit to EHP – it was the perfect space and captured just what we were looking for. Its chic and timeless, yet modern, and provides just the right dose of nautical charm. We couldn’t have wished for a better venue or setting.
Since not only the reception venue, but our entire wedding weekend was basically set on the water, I didn’t want to play into the nautical theme too much – it spoke for itself. Instead I opted to keep our overall vision classic with tiny touches of glamour strewn throughout. I wanted it to have the look and feel of a true affair. It all came together seamlessly thanks to our wonderful vendors, all of whom I cannot speak of highly enough!
Planning a wedding without a “planner” or “day-of coordinator” can definitely be tricky, stressful and often very overwhelming. Thankfully our families and friends were very helpful throughout the entire process. Some of my favorite details were the most personal. My mom hand-wrote the calligraphy for our invitations, place-cards and other paper goods. My parents created a Gaelic inspired wedding sign (a nod to both of our Irish heritages) to help our guests find their way, and many endless hours of ribbon tying, letter stamping and other personal touches were generously donated by our families and a few close friends.
The day itself could not have been more spectacular. The weather cooperated, our mass was beautiful (a personal family friend presided over our vows), and our reception was a complete blast. The dance floor was packed throughout the night, which is exactly what we was hoping for, the food was unbelievable and toasts so full of love and laughs. What was most remarkable however, was the fact that the most special people in our lives were there for us in that one place – a rarity that we will always treasure. There is only one thing I would change. If I could, I would have the day last twice as long. It truly was THE. BEST. DAY. EVER.
