I have yet to meet a Tory Williams wedding I don’t absolutely love. And this elegant New York farm affair is certainly no exception. Bursting with textured bloomage from Sarah Bedford and quirky details (hello, Lego figurine place cards!) you best skedaddle to the full gallery for soooo much more.
From the Bride… Paolo and I are complete opposites — except for our mutual respect for art and design. Having met, albeit briefly, while attending the Rhode Island School of Design, we were re-introduced a few years after college at a mutual friend’s gallery opening in Chelsea. That was 6 years ago.
One of the things we bonded over was our love for Hergé and his comic book series The Adventures of Tintin, which became the central theme of our wedding. Paolo illustrated our very own Tintin-styled save-the-date postcard with the wedding venue, Blue Hill at Stone Barns, as the background. As for the wedding invitation, he drew us as Raphael and April O’Neil from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with all our favorite characters in attendance. Our wedding was, like us, full of contrasts — elegant vs. nerdy, formal vs. casual, planned vs. spontaneous.
We wanted to leave personal touches at every stage of the event: we marched out of the ceremony to a quartet’s rendition of The Imperial March from Star Wars, prepared individual Lego figurines as seat assignments for our guests, Paolo sculpted and painted the cake topper depicting him as Wolverine and me as Psylocke, and had a photo booth with props made (and brought) by our talented friends (Star Wars light sabers and a Darth Vader mask were part of the collection). My bridesmaids also surprised us with a reenactment of So Long, Farewell from The Sound of Music, complete with personalized lyrics and dance moves. It was an incredibly fun night shared with our family and friends at an absolutely gorgeous venue. Not to mention the food was probably the best meal we ever had.
