Yvonne Wong is filling our screens with pretty today, and I couldn’t be more thankful for it. She’s bringing us a wedding filled with love, pretty details and gorgeous surroundings, leaving me with a grin that goes from ear to ear. See why here.

From the Bride…Louis and I met working at Seattle Children’s. Both of us had been out of college for a few years and we were starting to apply to medical schools. As luck would have it, after dating for two years, we were both accepted to the University of Washington. We took off the summer before school, and he proposed at a beach on Bainbridge Island.

Planning a wedding during medical school wasn’t easy but having a checklist on what we needed to get done every month kept us organized. We wanted to have as many personal touches as possible, keep within our budget, and be realistic about how much time we had to work. With help from family and friends, we were able to pull everything off. Happy hour games included a blind wine tasting game and bocce competition to celebrate our love of food and games (his being Italian made those a perfect fit). We created our own invitations, and we liked them so much we decided to frame one and have guests sign the mat for our guestbook. Family helped us assemble flowers leading up to the wedding. My Aunt made the bridal bouquets, which were the most beautiful floral arrangements I could have ever imagined! My sister did my makeup, while other talented bridesmaids sewed table runners. We wanted to source as much from Bainbridge as possible so we had desserts from the local bakery, hydrangeas from my parent’s yard, and the fabric for the runners was purchased from the local fabric shop. Neither Louis or I have a car, so we have relied on ZipCar ever since we met. Appropriately, our getaway car was a Mercedes ZipCar (you can’t do better than free gas!) One of my favorite touches were large portraits of our parents and grandparents at their weddings, all along the hallway of the reception venue. I highly recommend searching Pier 1 imports, Craigslist, and salvaged building materials (like those at The ReStore in Ballard) for affordable wedding decor.

Yvonne Wong, our photographer, was a pleasure to work with and her pictures will allow us to remember the love and joy of our wedding day for the rest of our lives. She was able to capture the emotions of the day so well. A big thanks to everyone who made our day so special!
