Oak Hill & The Martha Berry Museum Wedding

Not only is this bride stylish as all get out, but she’s got wedding words of wisdom that every couple should hear: “Decide right now that you will enjoy your wedding, no matter what.” And despite a few week-of curve balls thrown their way, with photos from Paperlily, coordination by The Season Events and blooms by Bussey’s, you’d never know the difference. Have a look right over here!

From the Bride… Nolan and I were married on one of the most beautiful September days we have ever seen. Surrounded by family, closest friends, and the most beautiful backdrop, we proclaimed our love for each other and our intentions to spend the rest of our lives together. It was perfect. The decision of where to get married was easy for us the moment we laid eyes on Oak Hill. The beautiful plantation home perfectly represented Nolan’s Southern roots and the European style gardens captured my love for all things romantic and cultural.

Walking through the grounds, we were nothing short of enchanted. We tried very hard to keep this in mind when planning the details of our day. We wanted to create an environment that equally embodied our love for adventure as well as our deep ties to the South. Dinner was served family style in bowls passed from guest to guest and the venue was decorated with the copper and heirlooms my family has accumulated on their travels. We gave out Georgia peaches as well as the more exotic pomegranates as favors. Another personal touch is the compass we chose as the emblem for our day- it acts as a constant reminder to venture and explore together while always leading us faithfully back home.

If I could extend any advice to future brides it would be to decide right now that you will enjoy your wedding, no matter what. Within a week of the wedding, our car went kaput, we had immediate family in the hospital, and our reception centerpieces fell through completely (a monumental effort by family, our florist, and coordinator ensured that our tables were still beautiful!). However, Nolan and I made the decision long beforehand that no matter what, our day would be a celebration of our love and nothing could put a damper on that!
