Hey there, Pretty Brides! I’m here today with some exciting news: my engagement shoot reveal! After much preparation, inspiration and brainstorming (and of course, outfit planning!) I teamed up with Bess Wyrick, Casa De Perrin, and Jana Williams to bring my 60’s inspired vision to life. Enjoy!
As a stylist, I wanted to try something different with my engagement shoot; something more editorial. It was also important to incorporate classic, romantic and timeless elements throughout. This seems like a large task to accomplish, but thanks to a clear vision and great inspiration, I think we pulled it off! I want to look back at our photos years from now without thinking “Oh goodness, that was way too crazy and trendy.”
Much like I discussed in last week’s Devon Says: I Do, I kept our wardrobes wearable and tried not to take the 60’s theme too literal.
If you go too far with a theme, it can look costume-like—something we all want to steer away from. We had such a blast shooting with Jana Williams in the magical setting of Topanga Canyon. I am beyond pleased with the turn out and hope you enjoy the photos!
From Bess, Floral & Styling… After meeting with Devon and Jana for champagne brunch one Sunday. We decided to take a hike through Runyon canyon where we became fast girlfriends. I got to understand more about what Devon wanted from her shoot and how it was important to capture her essence, grace and southern charm. Loved her love story about how they are making long distance work for them so I wanted to bring an element of travel, love notes, and nostalgia to the shoot. It was important to create three looks that would layer this love story.
The first look would be cozy up to one another. A picnic scene was set up under an almond tree with gorgeous layered rugs accented with fleece pillows and cashmere blankets. Picnic baskets were filled with fruits, berries and nuts all displayed on Casa De Perrin gorgeous trays and stemware. The Effervescence movement inspired the second look. I just loved her idea of biking with Chandler down a dirt road to create movement with one another.
We adorned the teal bike with a large basket of flowers with whimsical elements like eucalyptus stems, oncidiums mixed with air plants, roses, anomies, and peonies. Her boho look was complete with a dainty peony and eucalyptus floral crown. Accented with a lush just been picked bouquet filled with burgundy peonies, seeded eucalyptus, anemone , oncidiums, and accents of garden roses. Finally, the classic element of the shoot. Devon has such a classic look and I was so inspired by her beauty. Keeping her last look timeless with a dainty oncidium floral crown and red rose bouquet.
