California brides have it SO good. With vendors like Le Festin Events, Lori Boe and David Pascolla at their fingertips, it’s no wonder we have such a soft spot for these West Coast affairs. And while I could go on forever about the taupe colored bridesmaids, the antique details or the homeyness woven into this cozy barn affair, let me lead you straight to the full gallery, for all that plus soooo much more.
From the Bride.. We didn’t have a theme for our wedding; our main requirement was that it felt like us. The moment we saw Cayucos Creek Barn, we knew it was our venue. We felt at home, Cate grew up on property that looked very similar, it was near where we fell in love, and it fit our budget! From that moment we made most of our decisions based on our venue. It is a rustic barn, with lots of character so we wanted a relaxed but classic feel that didn’t overwhelm the natural beauty of the location. We wanted it to feel like we had everyone to a dinner party at our house, just with nicer flowers and more dancing.
I do not think we could have asked for a more beautiful ceremony. The weather was perfect, the sun was shining and we even had butterflies flying around us as we said our vows. We wrote our own ceremony and vows and had a family friend marry us, making the entire experience very personal and meaningful. The second best part was our dance party, starting with our improvised first dance where we just decided to be ourselves and have fun. The rest of the night was full of laughter and good dance moves to some amazing beats by our talented DJ.
We put a lot of thought into a few small details, hoping they would fit nicely into our venue but also show our personalities. Scott comes from a long line of junk lovers, so we used his moms talent at finding unique antique pieces to incorporate into our day. All of our floral arrangements were in antique silver, our officiant stood behind an antique lector, we had our seating arrangements in old frames, a set of S &C vintage letters and we made our guest book using an old book cover we found at a flea market. Our one main DIY project was burlap flags that said Yay! And we brought in old quilts from our families for people when they got cold. My dad planted flowers for our ceremony decorations, and a group of men built the stage we got married on the day before our wedding. Overall it was a major group effort, everyone contributed and our day was better off for it.
Although we started our journey with some challenges, we found some really great folks that fit so perfectly into our vision and helped to keep our angst at ease. Although the food was important to us, we were more focused on the dance party. We found a great DJ who filled the night with classic spun records mixed with todays hits and everything in between. It was a real party. Our flowers were a sight to be seen. Every table was beautifully placed with our vision along with gorgeous wreaths that graced the large barn doors. Our day of coordinator set everything up and handled all issues. I can honestly not imagine the day without her there. And finally, our photographer captured it all beautifully. David was a very calming presence, and he caught all of the personality of the day in his pictures.
