From JOWY Productions ...One of the most important factors when designing a wedding is to find personal touches that will resonate with the couple and their guests. At JOWY Productions, we make it our goal to find those personal details and weave them seamlessly into all of our weddings and events.

We recently had the pleasure of working with a bride who wanted to have an outdoor wedding at her parents home in the Los Angeles area where she grew up. The bride wanted the wedding to represent their family and how they entertain fun, casual, family oriented with great music and lots of cocktails. She wanted her guests to feel relaxed and at home.

When JOWY Productions started designing this wedding, we wanted to make their event unique and all about them as a couple. We met with the bride who told us everything they wanted us to know about them, as a couple, and their likes/loves. They are foodies, they love to drink beer, love music and love succulents. The bride also expressed an interest from the initial planning meeting to create some fun elements herself as she is beyond creative. Using her creativity she designed signage, drawing for their wedding reply card and worked on the music. Their friends know them as Fish and Bear so we decided that we needed to somehow incorporate a fish and a bear image into the event. We ended up using it on their Save the Dates as well as on the brides DIY bride and groom wooden chair signs. By incorporating the same fish and bear image noting Bride with the Fish and Groom with the Bear this created a running theme for the wedding starting from the first point of contact with the guests and involved them on a personal level with the couple. We incorporated succulents on the wedding invitation and again on the escort cards, which we hung on twine with small clothespins. Elements from the save the dates to the invitation to the escort cards were very personal and had a creative thread that tied everything together through to the wedding evening.

Based on the couples direction, we at JOWY Productions designed a beautiful backyard wedding that was fresh, contemporary, rustic, yet romantic. We incorporated wood elements with a ton candles. The bride loved the idea of using colors: peach, poppy orange, ivory, sage green and succulents were a MUST.

The chuppah for the ceremony was an aspen branch arbor adorned with the pops of colors. The couple got married under a suspended blanket that was the brides grandmothers and also used another family heirloom - a lace table linen for their ceremony table; 4 hankies from the brides great grandmother and also from the grandmother of both sides of the family were also used during the ceremony. Lauren held on with her bouquet and gave one to her 2 sister-in-laws and 1 to her mom during the ceremony. All of these elements created a very personalized experience for both the couple and their guests.

We used wood planks, mason jars, wood centerpieces and candles throughout. We designed the reception with a mixture of long rectangular tables and round wood tables with sage runners on the rectangular tables and matching sage linens for the square tables. Each table scenario (rectangular, round and square) was different but overall created a cohesive look. All of the napkins were the same colored sage too. The bride really wanted a tent for the reception but she did not want to feel enclosed and have the reception appear over done. We decided to use a clear tent with no sidewalls and accent the clear tent with a partial swag in ivory fabric and suspended 150 candles over the dance floor and 50 over the head table so they appeared to be floating. We brought tall pepper trees into the tent and placed them along the perimeter so that it felt like you were still outside. With the feel of the clear tent in conjunction with the fabric and trees, as well as the existing trees surrounding property - which we lit so you could see them through the tent including the tall trees through the ceiling - the flow from outside to inside the tent was seamless. Guests danced the night away on a rustic wood dance floor.

Since food was a very important factor for the bride and groom, we created a menu that was incredible. It was farm to table, organic, light and summery. After the ceremony, we served specialty cocktails, which we named "The Fancy Fisch" - Vodka, Fresh Citrus, Mint Syrup, Rosemary, The Bourbon Bear"- Bourbon, Agave, Mint & Lemon Twist and a Lemon Mint Julep. A friend of the couple brewed his own beer for the bride and groom so we created a special beer bar called, Johnnys Brew. It had 5 different kinds of beer all special for the occasion.

Due to their love for food, there was an amazing rustic cheese & charcuterie station, set on a wooden table we found inside the parents home, with domestic and imported hard & soft cheeses, seasonal fresh fruit, honeycomb & quince paste, assorted salumis, marinated olives & marcona almonds with an assortment of artisan breads and crostinis. It was truly beautiful and the couple loved it. Instead of using flowers on the cocktail tables, we used wood paddles that had a sampler of cheese and charcuterie complimenting the station.

Keeping it light and fresh, the first course was a summer melon salad with cherry & yellow pear tomatoes, watercress, feta & mint followed by the entre that was served family style. Guests were able to choose from sliced Tomahawk rib-eye steak or a Mediterranean Branzino that was served via French servicesome guests feasted on both options! Orecchiette pasta with sauted spinach & roasted summer vegetables was also served along with a grilled corn salad with basil vinaigrette, saut of yellow patty pan squash, baby carrots, shaved Brussels sprouts & haricot verts were placed on each table for guests to pass around and enjoy. For dessert we served wedding cake and family style dessert platters which were placed on each table that included an assortment of inside out smores, miniature ho-hos, raspberry coconut zingers, miniature red velvet cupcakes, heart shaped chocolate caramel tarts w/ gold flecks and chocolate dipped peanut butter cookies.

The bride and groom danced the night away with their family and friends. It was a memorable evening incorporating all of the elements they found important to themselves individually and as a couple including some great DIY touches which made it that more special.
