From the very beginning, Parksey and I wanted a celebration. Not ones for the traditional white wedding, when looking for a venue for our big day, something unique, informal and familiar to us was key. The perfect place was in fact one we visited often, an urban oasis, a farm in the heart of Melbourne.

So began our unconventional preparations for getting married at The Collingwood Children’s farm. Lucky for us, we met Sophie and Nicole from Cookes Food who embodied the same enthusiasm for this unique setting. Whilst people may have thought we were cuckoo to get married in a paddock, with the love and enduring support of each other, and a little help along the way from our friends and family, our ‘big day’ was perfect.

Our wedding was simply about us, being surrounded by the things and people we love. My mum made the desserts, including my beloved grandma’s award wining passion fruit sponge as our wedding cake; there were delicious morsels of locally sourced produce from the amazing team at Cookes Food; and a much loved and thoroughly enjoyed wine vintage from a friend’s vineyard. The carefully curated playlist (co-edited from opposite sides of the world) by Parksey and groomsmen ensured the dance floor was full the entire night. Even my bridesmaids made their own bouquets (as well as all the flower decorations) and I made the bespoke Adirondack chairs – 10 in total, plus a love seat! As you can imagine, trips to the timber yard were more commonplace than cake tasting or selecting the latest trend in bombonieres.

On a beautiful summer’s eve, with all the ingredients for a party, as the stars began to twinkle in the sky, Parksey and I, now husband and wife, danced the night away surrounded by the ones we love.

To our photographers… From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for making our day the most beautiful ever. To have you both as an integral part of our Big day, documenting every little smile, tear or laugh along the way, was a privilege. Parksey and I (as well as everyone that’s clapped eyes on them) absolutely love the photos! Every time I look through them, I catch glimpses of different people or impressive dance moves that make me chuckle. Kat and Scout, you are both very talented and any bride and groom should feel blessed to have you photograph their wedding – at least that’s how we feel!
