Milk and Honey Photography always sends us the sweetest soirees, and this Sydney wedding at the Dunbar House is another one to file in their oh so pretty features folder. Pretty purple hues, glittery heels and a sweet love story all captured as pretty as possible. It makes for one gorgeous gallery of images, and you can see every last one of them right here.
From the Bride… Our ceremony was perfect and set under the fig tree at Robertson Park, with magnificent views of Sydney Harbour. Our reception was held at Dunbar House. Guests enjoyed cocktails and canapés on the upstairs harbour terrace whilst being entertained by a live band, before moving inside for a delicious three course dinner and dancing. Dunbar House did an excellent job and guests were very complimentary about the venue, food and service.
As soon as we inspected Dunbar House we knew it would be the perfect venue for our wedding– classic and elegant with some amazing views of the harbour! Being able to have our ceremony just in front of Dunbar House under the fig tree was also very important to James and I, as we wanted to minimize travel for our guests, particularly those that had travelled long distances to celebrate with us.
Incorporating our families into our special day was really important to both James and I. My sister was my maid of honour and both of James’ sisters did a reading at our ceremony. James’ nieces and nephews ‘stole the show’ as our gorgeous and very cute flower girls and page boys and both our fathers delivered heartfelt and memorable speeches on the night. James’ brother in law also did an excellent job as our MC of the night. As a special touch, my ‘something old’ and ‘something borrowed’ was my Mum’s ring which she has worn since she was a child, which I tied to my bouquet. We were also fortunate enough that the senior chaplain from James’ high school was available to conduct our ceremony. Being married by someone who had seen James grow up and who he was familiar and comfortable with was a very special touch for us.
For guests who wanted to help us celebrate with a gift, we provided them with the option of a registry or a wishing well. The wishing well option was particularly important to many of my family and friends as in Chinese and other Asian cultures, ‘red envelopes’ or monetary gifts are typically given to the married couple as a symbol of good luck.
Finally, the Flashback Photobooth which we had on the night was a great hit with our guests and something that I would definitely recommend to other brides! All our guests had so much fun getting silly in front of the camera with the props which made for a very memorable guest book for us!
One thing which we will never forget is how lucky we were with the weather. They say that rain on your wedding day is meant to be good luck and if that’s the case, we must be the luckiest couple around because it felt like Sydney had saved up an entire month of rain on the morning of our big day! Miraculously, about an hour before our ceremony was due to start, the sun started to appear and we had our ceremony outdoors as planned.
