Cupid works in mysterious ways, like when he introduces you to your soulmate when you are in elementary school. That’s what we here at SMP call some serious fate, and when we meet two such cuties we can’t wait to share their big day. Which is why we did a little happy dance when Goldenview Photography sent us this little gem, a DIY-filled rustic affair with enough inspiration to last your entire weekend. Oh, and the childhood sweethearts? Absolutely fabulous. Get to know them right here.
From the Bride… Our wedding was a long time coming! Micah and I met in elementary school and dated throughout high school, college, and beyond. Our wedding day had been something that we’d talked and dreamed about for years! We wanted our wedding to be beautiful and elegant, yet simple and practical. After looking at ideas online, we were both drawn to the rustic meets vintage look and the ideas started to flow! We decided to do as many things on our own as possible. While I am the organizer and planner in our relationship, Micah is definitely the one with the creative eye and so he took charge of the DIY design projects.
We kept the decorations in the church very simple as the church was so beautiful on its own. We purchased hanging baskets filled with white pansies and wrapped the baskets in a gold cellophane wrap and set them on three various sized plant stands. For our centerpieces, we used old mason jars from my parent’s basement, wrapped them in burlap, and filled them with baby’s breath, green viburnum, and white mini mums. We then placed them on wood slabs which were cut from a log in my uncle’s bush. Throughout the hall pictures from our engagement photo shoot were on display. Some hung with clothes pins and twine while others were put in frames. We used antique tea cups that had been collected by my mother and mother-in-law as unique flower and candle holders. Behind the vintage couch, we displayed black and white photos of my oma and opa’s wedding pictures.
For our favours, we gave our guests a plantable heart which would bloom wildflowers when planted which we ordered from Botanical Paperworks. We decided to do something a little different for the bouquet toss, and had a mason jar filled with candy and asked all of the single ladies to take a guess and the closest guess won the bouquet. We absolutely loved the simple, yet elegant look of white baby’s breath and we used it as much as we could in our decorations. Micah and I could not have been more happy with how our day turned out! After so much time and energy put into planning it was so nice to be able to enjoy it with our friends and family. We feel so blessed to be able to look back on a wonderful day that is filled with many happy and treasured memories!
