I adore this wedding. And not only because it’s a serious pretty-fest from start to finish (it so is). No, I adore this wedding because I happen to have a serious crush on these two cuties – two cuties who met back in junior high school, shared an apartment in college and, after sweet courtship, decided to tie the knot with only six months to plan. From the Bride… Colin and I grew up together in a small town in central Alberta, we have known each other since Jr. High School. I moved away in grade ten but we kept in touch here and there; in 2010 I was looking for a new roommate during university and Colin happened to be looking for a room! We lived together as roommates for two years before we began dating.
We talked on and off about getting married last summer while Colin was away (he’s in the military). He just said, “Why don’t we get married before June?” (There was a possibility of him being deployed.) I was shocked because it was a lot of planning to do in six months! We didn’t tell anyone for a week just in case we decided it would be better to wait until after his tour. By the end of the week we were both so excited that we didn’t want to wait any longer!
Our vision was intimate and timeless. We were surrounded by 18 of our closest family and friends and wanted something that was going to be comfortable for all our guests as they were traveling for us it was important to have a feeling of home. We didn’t want anything fussy or over the top. Just something that reflected who we are.
Our wedding theme was home. I didn’t use anything at the wedding that I wouldn’t have in my own home. I love mismatched china, bunting flags, and searching for vintage pieces.
The flowers were all cut from the winery gardens by Colin’s parents, Jackie (site manager), Colin, and myself the day before. Since Starling Lane is a historic site I had Jackie send me some “fun facts” about the winery and made a scavenger hunt for our guests to learn and explore the grounds. The venue was my favorite “detail” it’s so beautiful I didn’t want to have too much stuff to take away from the natural beauty of the place.
The entire day right from start to finish I couldn’t have asked for more. I got to marry the person I adore the most in the world.
