Simply put, this Dallas “I do” is everything. The rich colors palette, the statement floral design, and a dress so special, it could bring a tear to any wedding lover’s eye. But when you stop to peel back the layers of pretty, you’ll find a pair of college sweethearts who let nothing outshine their love. From the Bride…From the moment Carter and I met, I knew something was different. We just clicked. Carter and I met at Baylor University through mutual friends but not really until our senior year of college (I recently found out he totally remembered meeting me years earlier though). We knew it was risky to start dating so close to graduation, but that didn’t stop us. We jumped in which led to years of dating in four different cities, traveling long distance, three different jobs, and then a surprise engagement in Nashville, TN, two and a half years later. I knew from the very beginning it would always be an adventure with Carter, and there was no doubt that I wanted to be his permanent sidekick and traveling buddy!
For our wedding, the one thing that was most important to us was getting to spend quality time with family and friends during the weekend. We have been blessed with a ton of loved ones and wanted to make sure they felt included and involved, so of course, our wedding parties ended up being quite large! In total, we had 16 girls and 20 boys.
I am originally from Dallas, TX, but we wanted to get out of the city a little and have a wedding and reception that felt a more laid back. The ceremony was held in Denton, TX, at Denton Bible Chapel with dinner and dancing to follow at a rustic ranch called Buffalo Valley Event Center. The whole feel was very us: traditional, yet comfortable and relaxed. Even the drive entering the venue was gorgeous with a lit winding path that separated a field with live buffalo! For dinner, we served some “good ol’ homecookin’” complete with chicken fried steak and macaroni and cheese. We stayed true to the homemade theme with a dessert table featuring banana pudding, chocolate chip cookies, and apple pie in addition to my wedding cake. To keep ya warm on that chilly February night, we had a bar full of hot chocolate, apple cider, and coffee with all the fixin’s.
Other than the people we loved most being there, the second most important thing to me was my wedding dress. I was a fashion merchandising major in college and knew that selecting the perfect wedding dress would be anything but an easy task. So after much searching, I knew what I wanted and had to do… have a custom dress made. This was my splurge purchase, and I was beyond pleased with the outcome. I teamed up with the head designer at Stanley Korshak, Nardos, and ended up with a dress with which I am completely obsessed. Flowers were next on my priority list, and I was beyond pleased with those as well. The most “to-die-for” accent was the large wildflower halo that hung over the center of the dance floor. It was absolutely breathtaking and paired perfectly with my centerpieces which were a mix of mercury glass, birch wood, antlers, lanterns, candles, and fresh flowers.
After dinner came the dancing, music, and entertainment performed by the wonderful Special Edition Band. They did an amazing job of keeping everyone from our l5 year old cousins to our grandparents out on the dance floor and having a good time. Carter and I wrapped up the night with one last private dance (which I highly recommend), and then we exited through a tunnel of artificial fluttering snow thrown by our guests. We drove off in an old 1950 baby blue Ford truck and haven’t looked back since! We are all buckled up for wherever this crazy marriage ride takes us next and couldn’t be happier. Hold on tight!
