Martha’s Vineyard Wedding from Jocelyn Filley Photography

Weddings will always make me swoon, that’s a given. But if you want to really know what makes me tick, it’s the stories behind the soirees. The effort, the thought, the days that led up to a beautiful Bride walking down the aisle to meet her Groom. Which is precisely why I fell head over heels in love with this Martha’s Vineyard beauty captured by Jocelyn Filley Photography. It’s gorgeous backyard wedding meets the sweet stylings of this lovely Bride, and it all went off without a hitch thanks to ZBR Events. See every sweet moment right here.

From the Bride… When Jesse and I got engaged, we knew right away that we wanted to get married at my parents’ house on Martha’s Vineyard. Martha’s Vineyard is such a great place to have a wedding because you really can source so many items locally. Our caterer, Jan Buhrman of Kitchen Porch Catering emphasizes locally grown and sustainable food, and our florist, Krishana Collins, grows all of her own flowers right on the island. I felt really comfortable giving her free reign to design the flowers because I knew that they would be gorgeous no matter what. The only thing I knew I wanted were those dark purple dahlias in my wedding bouquet. Everything else I left up to her. She amazed me with what she came up with!

I was so lucky to have Zoe Barbey Ross and her assistant Megan Leonard of ZBR Events help plan the wedding. I knew that I could do most of the decor by myself, but I really needed their help coordinating with vendors and dealing with lots of the organization and logistics. They were wonderful. I didn’t have to think about any details on my wedding day. They understood what I wanted and they just took care of it!

Jocelyn Filley and her assistant Elizabeth Cecil were the perfect photographers for our wedding. They were so unobtrusive but also managed to be everywhere at once. I felt like they appreciated all of the little details as much as I did, and their pictures reflect the sense of fun and humor that we tried to capture in our wedding day.

Most of the decor we did ourselves. I could not have done it without my family and all of the friends who pitched in in the days before the wedding. We framed old family wedding photos and hung them on the porch. We found a lot of great items from Pottery Barn and save-on-crafts.com including shepherds hooks, mason jars, signs, and lanterns. Jesse painted all the signs and I hand-wrote all of the name cards on shipping hang tags decorated with a paper punch. My friends were so great — they labored over string lights and gift bags and they made the fantastic chair garland out of an old Martha’s Vineyard map. My friend Cate did everyone’s makeup. My parents’ gardener Ali Hedin made the chuppah (wedding canopy) from a fallen oak tree and cut all of the stumps for the table markers and the pie servers. I used a local printer for the menus and the programs rather than trying to do it online and I’m so glad I did. I didn’t need a designer — I just put together the text I wanted using a pretty free font I downloaded, and Kevin Cain at Tisbury Printer took care of the rest.
