Mississippi Wedding from Shane Snider Photography

Oh, how I heart a backyard wedding. There’s nothing so sweet or so very sentimental than saying “I do” at your childhood home. Add in some gorgeous outdoor design and a handful of tree-hung chandeliers, and you’ve got a wedding of dreamy proportions. Shane Snider sent over all the swoon-worthy goodness and Heart Stone Films caught the video you just mustn’t miss.

From the Bride…Clif and I were married by his childhood pastor in April at his parents home in the front yard underneath the tree that he grew up climbing in Mississippi. The reception was held underneath the old oak trees in the side yard. It was incredibly important for my husband to be married in his home state of Mississippi, where all his family could be present and he has such a strong connection to his childhood home, we thought it would be the perfect location. Not to mention, it gave his parents an excuse to do some extra landscaping.

We both are lovers of everything antique and it was very important to me that we include that in our wedding. I have always loved cameos and wanted them to be a central part of the wedding so we used a cameo on all the letterpress pieces. We also both didn’t want to cover up the natural beauty of the land, but wanted to enhance it, so we did not use a tent. We hung chandeliers in the trees and hung birdcages, antique ribbon and vintage paintings in the trees. For the ceremony we asked the guests to gather their favorite herbs and dried florals from the antique tea cups at the ceremony entrance and either keep them for themselves or shower us as we departed the ceremony. Prior to the ceremony, guests were treated to mint juleps and sweet tea.

For the reception, guests dined under the oak trees on a family style meal of fried chicken, beef brisket, turnip greens, macaroni and cheese, corn souffle, and spicy green beans all served in antique dishes. The wedding cake featured different flavors on different layers, strawberry shortcake and orange cream in addition to mini pies. Each table arrangement was accentuated with vintage books, antique glass, birdcages and fresh fruit. At each place setting, guests were given a jar of fig preserves made from the fig tree in the front yard.
