British Columbia Wedding from Calla Evans Photography + Winona Phillips

A Bride that walks down the isle to “Wild Horses” is a Bride I want to get to know. Add the fact that she DIY’d just about every pretty thing you see in this gallery, and I’m officially in awe. With the help of Winona Phillips she planned one of the most intimately fabulous weddings I’ve ever seen, and thanks to Calla Evans Photography you can see ever last thoughtful moment right here.

From Winona Phillips… Josh & Krista, along with all of their friends and family, shared one of the most intimate and loving weddings that I have ever encountered. The couple created a vintage inspired wedding filled with love!  This bride was a true DYI gal and handmade almost every element herself with the help of Josh and some close friends.

The welcoming table was adorned with a mason for each guest labeled with their name tied with a piece of twine and a wooden birdcage for the cards.  An old screen door was given a fresh coat of paint and twine hanging lines across and handkerchiefs clipped on with wooden clothes pins instead of tissue for the ceremony.  Finally, a dark green acoustic guitar sat on a wine barrel with a silver pen for guests to sign in lieu of a guest book, which now holds a special place in the couples home.

Krista and Josh chose to have a small bridal party with Krista’s sister, Tara, as her Maid of Honor and Tara’s husband as Josh’s Best Man.  Sean Reynolds, the bride’s brother married the couple as they stood in an arbor adorned with origami pigeons.  The bride handmade 50 origami pigeons as a tribute to her father who used to race pigeons.  As Krista descended the 3 stories of the bell tower to reach the outdoor ceremony location she passed by a picture of her parents (both of whom passed away before the wedding) on their wedding day.  Her sister Tara and two nieces preceded her in a very emotional procession.

Josh is a very talented musician with many talented friends, some of whom provided the music for their ceremony. Krista walked down the aisle to a live rendition of “Wild Horses” written by Rolling Stones and the couple recessed to a live version of “Love Shack” by the B52s.

Lining the aisle were beige hand-painted wine bottles with a single rose in each.  The men in the bridal party each wore a hand-crafted rose made by Krista out of pages printed with romantic verses.  On their way back down the aisle guests each threw a white long stem rose in celebration!  Following the ceremony all of the guests were called to form a heart shape around the couple to capture everyone who came to celebrate the beautiful day, Josh & Krista stood in the middle with an acoustic guitar in hand and their photographer, Calla Evans, photographed the scene from above.  As the bridal party set off to the vineyard and nearby cliff to take pictures, the guests enjoyed refreshments and music.  The iced tea and lemonade was enjoyed in the mason jars from the welcoming table with vintage paper straws!

Italian style share platters were served to each table for dinner, prepared by the amazing Chef and his staff at Hillside Bistro.  Starting with a delicious salad with fresh grated parmesan, a grilled veggie platter, asparagus risotto, chicken piccata with caper salsa verde, candied local steelhead trout with Israeli couscous, jumbo tiger prawns with heirloom tomato fusilli pasta and plum braised short ribs with pecorino polenta.  Between courses the emcee Darryl, who went to school with Josh, entertained the guests and introduced each family or friend who wished to address the couple with well wishes.  I have never seen such emotion and so many tears as I did that night!  After dinner the guests were invited to the upstairs patio.
