When a themed-soiree is done just right, it’s like winning the wedding jackpot. And when the retro fête is inspired by, and takes place at, the beautiful Paragon Theatre that’s been owned + run by the bride’s family since 1962… It’s pure perfection. From the Bride… Paragon Theatre, built in 1909 and converted to theatre in 1927. Bought by my great-grandmother in 1962 and ran by my grandma and nonno until 2007 when I bought it. Nige bought into it 2011 and we moved home to start renovating it and converting back to entertainment venue. my engagement ring is also my great-grandmothers from 1890 which went to my grandma and then to me so it feel very connected to them.
It Means the world to me to get married in the theatre. I had my first ever kiss in there when I was 13 and the my first kiss as a married woman at 28. Spent a very tiring week with family and friends scrubbing and cleaning and upholstering the chairs so it was ready for the wedding. I love that everyone is always there to help when needed. sometimes small towns are amazing as everyone knows everyone and has so much history and are always willing to get their hands dirty and help with the only payment being a BBQ and a beer!
My family has had holiday homes in Woodgate Beach since the 1960’s and Nige’s mum has always lived there. It is Nige’s favourite beach and even after travelling the world, it’s still my favourite beach too. Nige and I spent the first week we were together there before i went back overseas and so it meant a lot for us to have our reception there and photos in the same spot we took “selfie” photos.
It was also an absolute MUST for us to stay up and watch the sun rise over the water to end the wedding but I didn’t think there would be 20+ people still there with us!! Was such an amazing feeling having everyone there for such a special moment.
Ever since I was a little kid, mum told me “you should have been born in the 50’s!” – I always have and always will be an old soul who likes nothing more than old music, cars, fashion, movies etc etc. when I was 11 I had posters of Elvis on my wall not teen idols! There was never a doubt in my mind growing up that I would have a retro wedding because that’s just normal to me. I’ve never been any different. I’m just lucky nige loves all of the old stuff too and didn’t mind at all that I wanted a theme.
