Intimate weddings have my heart. The type of fête that almost feels like a dinner party, but with a little extra soul. Where you can chat with, and more importantly, hug everyone, and the food is delicious and plentiful. This is just such a party, and it’s made even more fabulous because it was hosted at the stylish Gramercy Park Hotel celebrating an equally stylish couple. From the Bride… The saying “Everything happens for a reason” feels appropriate for our wedding. Six months before the big day, we had to change our venue after a bumpy beginning to the process. But as soon as we went with Gramercy Park Hotel, it was smooth sailing to the timeless, intimate wedding we envisioned, and Tom and I spent our wedding surrounded by our favorite people in the city where we live and fell in love.
There were two indelible memories for us from a night we like to think of as the best dinner party ever (the food got serious raves). The first involved a heavy rain storm that began just before the ceremony, providing a one-of-a-kind moment. As our rabbi — a friend whom I’ve known since we were 16 — asked our 95 guests to reflect silently after Tom and I exchanged vows, we heard nothing but the downpour on the roof of the glass-enclosed terrace for a sound effect that seemed almost otherworldly. The other moment was our first dance. Tom and I didn’t want many spotlight situations like a grand entrance as a couple or cutting the cake (we even decided to bypass wedding cake in favor of macarons) — but we did want to share a first dance. So we snuck away while everyone was eating dinner and swayed and spun around with no one (except Annabel, our photographer) watching. It was wonderful to have it just be us for two minutes — it slowed down a special evening that went by far too fast.
