From the Bride… Andrew and I both came to New York, from different places at different times, following our dream jobs in hopes of careers. We have both come to love New York and each other so much, so when it came time to plan our wedding, we knew it had to be here. We chose our venue for many reasons, but mainly because of its location – at the tip of lower Manhattan, in Battery Park. A beautiful restaurant in a park along the water with views of the Statue of Liberty – yes, please! Despite being a chilly, blustery day in October, the sun was out and set in the most magnificent way as we said our vows.
The most important thing to us was to be surrounded by our amazing family and friends. To thank them for their endless love, support, and companionship, we wanted to throw a party and celebrate our happiness with them. From our delectable food & drinks, the jazz cocktail hour & phenomenal dance band at our reception, to the old-fashioned trolleys that transported our guests to the venue, after-party, and back to their hotel, all we wanted was for people to have a fabulous time – and that they did!
The details of our beautiful day were made possible through a family effort, especially by the talented women in my life. My aunt, who is also my godmother, married us in a touching, witty, one of a kind ceremony. Other aunts and my matron of honor handmade our ring bearer pillows and their bowties, painted our charming signs, and wrote out our escort cards after I stamped and edged them. My mother provided the lanterns and other decorative elements that our florist brought to life with candlelight and succulent bursts of color. We cut our cake with a sword (coincidentally provided by the venue), which symbolized the honor of some of the great men in both of our families whose own military swords have cut the wedding cakes of other relatives. And although my maternal grandparents couldn’t make the trip, we wrapped a piece of lace from my grandmother’s wedding dress around my bouquet, and they were in our hearts the whole day.
Our favorite part of the night was looking out at all of the gorgeous, smiling faces in the glow of our reception, in overwhelming awe that we had nearly everyone we deeply care about in one room celebrating with us. Andrew and I are inspired by our wonderful family and friends, by each other’s charm and goodness, and by our great city – to marry each other in the midst of all of that was an incredible experience we will never forget.
