From the Bride… December is our favourite month of the year and Alasdair and I both always wanted to be married on a warm summer day.  We got our dream!  The day was filled with glorious sunshine and it created exactly the right atmosphere we wanted for our big day.  Guests could relax, play games and share in our special day with us.

We got married at Summerlees in Sutton Forest.  From the moment we first saw it, we knew it was the venue for us.  A lovingly restored white, lace estate made it the perfect backdrop for our English garden-style wedding.  We didn’t want anything overly manicured or polished.  The stunning property had a rustic cottage, an old barn and gazebo and a garden filled with wildflowers and ivy.  It was the perfect backdrop to reflect our style.  A stunning ballroom encased in ivy also provided an enchanting look and feel for our reception.  Guests could spill out into the courtyard under a beautiful candle lit tree.

Alasdair is from the UK and we both spent time living there together so we both agreed we wanted an English-inspired garden party.  We bought old lace furniture, picnic blankets with floral cushions .  On entrance, guests were greeted with an old-fashioned lemonade stand dressed with a gingham tablecloth, daisies and lemons and guests were served scones with jam and cream.  Old-style music filled the garden as guests played games such as croquet. Roaming entrees and champagne were served in the garden.

We selected soft muted tones of white, peach and splashes of pale blue and purple.  We chose three materials and stuck with them – hessian, antique lace and old paper. I have a passion for old things and DIY.  I loved browsing wedding blogs and magazines to get inspired.  It really helped me to save money and the process of styling your own wedding was so much fun! Handmade details were really important to me and I felt that they added charm and personality to our special day. We hunted for hours for a photography style that was candid and observational…with a little creative twist.  After some serious web surfing, I stumbled across Caspix.  Her photography has been described as off beat, whimsical and romantic.  She really captured the magic of the day.
