From the Bride… Troy and I met through mutual friends over three years ago and have pretty much been inseparable ever since. Troy is the most kind, thoughtful and funny person I have ever met so when he proposed to me on New Years Eve last year I didn’t even have to think about my answer. It seemed only natural to want to spend the rest of my life with this amazing person. Ours was a quick engagement. We married 10 months later in the church around the corner from where I spent most of my childhood. I will never forget the feeling of walking up the aisle. We’re not an emotional couple but when I looked to the alter and saw Troy’s face I almost lost my resolve and it took all my will to stop me from being a blubbering mess, especially when I noticed Troy was on the verge of tears too!

Planning a wedding is hard work! It’s important to find vendors that understand your vision and are on the same page as you. I suggest that it’s very important to find a photographer you are comfortable with as this is one of the people you will be spending the most time with on your day. After hours of scouring wedding blogs (especially Style Me Pretty) we were lucky to stumble across the work of Stewart Leishman. Stewart is not only a talented and professional photographer, he is also a genuinely lovely guy. His ability to make you laugh and put you at ease on a day which can get pretty stressful and nerve racking is definitely a great asset for a wedding photographer. Not to mention his work in amazing! Bellbrae Harvest, a little restaurant situated in front of a lake and surrounded by bushland, was the perfect location for our reception. It had the intimate and laid back feel we were after and the staff were so helpful and professional. We couldn’t have asked for a better venue.

It’s hard to pick one favourite memory from the day but just seeing all your loved ones together in the one place having so much fun and enjoying something you’ve spent so much time and effort organising is the most rewarding feeling. If I were to give any advice to future couples about planning your wedding it would be to not compromise what you want for anything. Don’t worry about what other people think or like and stick to what reflects you and your partner. One of the biggest compliments we received from our guests was that our wedding was very ‘us’. I’m a massive sweet tooth and it was very important for me to have a dessert table that was accessible from the very start of the evening. Troy loves his music so he spent weeks working on a playlist of all our old and new favourite songs. We didn’t go overboard on a theme either. I didn’t want to be limited to one particular colour (although pink did seem to pop up quite a bit) and I kept the decorations simple with white paper lanterns. We didn’t want to detract from the natural beauty of the venue. Lastly one more piece of advice for brides, don’t change your mind about anything at the last minute! Chances are, if you’ve had a certain idea about something from the start then there’s a reason for that. Don’t go changing things on a whim the night before!
