From the Bride… When Nick asked me to marry him in the piazza in Sienna, Italy, time seemed to stand still. He got down on one knee, told me how much he loved me and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. I, of course, through shaky hands and tear-ridden cheeks, whispered, “Yes, yes, of course,” and at that moment, we decided on forever. There was a sense of a fairytale, a moment uninterrupted by time, and I knew I wanted to capture that moment during our wedding. A year and two days after our Italian engagement, we said our “I do’s” at Maravilla Gardens in Camarillo, California, surrounded by our closest family and friends. There was no definite inspiration; we just knew we wanted to celebrate under the stars with a rustic, romantic feel that would have our guest walking away with their own sense of a fairytale. Maravilla Gardens really captured the essence we wanted our guest to experience. The ambiance there conveyed such a rustic yet elegant atmosphere that Nick and I instantly fell in love with the venue. Planning our wedding went relatively smoothly as my mom and I created a lot of the DIY details: the centerpiece crates, burlap and lace runners, the place cards, table numbers, programs and “sweets table” display.
Looking back on the whole process — the engagement, the planning, the dress fittings, the showers and the stress – everything paid off because my wedding was all that I wanted and more. My favorite part of the day was the ceremony — it was so surreal and so very special, a definite highlight, especially since Nick’s mother was the officiant! If I could do it all over, I would enjoy the planning stages more. It goes by so fast, remember to soak in every minute and ENJOY IT!
