The Nickersons have brought us a pretty little number that’s chock full of do-it-yourself inspiration from the handmade bunting lining the aisle to the outdoor photo booth! From the Bride… We wanted our wedding to be elegant, yet simple, all while being rustic and outdoorsy. Getting married outside is a gamble in the Vancouver area, but we LOVE the outdoors! Travis and I very fond of fishing and anything camping. On top of this, I have always loved clouds and trees, especially big and epic trees. It was my dream to get married around trees! We tried our best to pull off rustic elegance by doing DIY’s such as chalkboard signs, a lemonade stand, an outdoor photo booth amongst lavender bushes, mason jars with burlap and lace, bunting and doily banners. We also had lawn games set out for people to play in between the ceremony and reception. A special touch was the bunting aisle leading up to the ceremony fashioned from a thrifted book. We also tied our wedding rings to my Opa’s old German Bible. The photos on the Bible were of both sets of my grandparents. I never met my Grampie because he passed away before I was born, but my Grammie, Oma and Opa all passed away within one year.
We did a LOT of thrifting. We found our mason jars and fabric for bunting at a variety of thrift stores. We painted dollar store lanterns to compliment the look we were going for and created banners out of doilies that decorated our reception room. We had a lot of friends and family help put it all together, and we felt EXTREMELY blessed to see the wedding of our dreams come to be. For our wedding colors, I always thought I would want a natural tone like green, blue or even beige. But then I saw dusty rose and fell in love. I thought that all of my bridesmaids would look gorgeous in the colour, so we went with a shades of dusty rose for their dresses. I also let them pick out their own dresses. They ran different styles, shades and fabrics by me, and then I would give the final OK. They all found their dresses on Ruche and ModCloth. I loved the softness of pastels, so I kept with that theme while searching for bunting fabrics and flowers.
It is crazy how fast a wedding goes by. For us, we counted down the days, did a ton of preparations, completed many a DIY, and finally, we got married — and it was the most amazing day to start the rest of my extremely blessed life with Travis. My favorite moment was before the ceremony when I had the opportunity to pray with my future husband. We didn’t see each other until I walked down the aisle, but we stood either side of a wall, held hands and prayed. Having our Lord and Savior at the center of the day was our main goal. We wanted our wedding to reflect Him. Finally our last favorite moment was when I walked down the aisle. To see all of our family and friends there in support of our relationship and getting ready to witness the next step of our lives together was absolutely breathtaking. But to see the love of my life waiting for me at the end gave me chills, knowing I was going to start a new adventure with him was the moment I had been waiting for since I met him.
There was so much going on during our wedding day and so many people that I wanted to visit with that it was hard to see how all of our hard work came together during the day. My advice is hire an amazing photographer and cinematography by setting aside a decent amount of money from your wedding budget to make this happen. Looking at our photos and videos has really let us reflect on our day even more! The Nickersons were a DREAM TEAM and Jordyn Siemens captured a lot of set up before the day as well as the actual day itself. They were unbelievable blessings to us, and we are so excited about our memories from them.
