From Krista of KJ & Co.As a wedding photographer herself, the bride, Heather, sees gorgeous weddings all the time. Of course she had some fabulous inspiration when it was her turn. Heather and Scott fell in love with the Gambrel Barn at the venue and the property surrounding it. They hoped to use the barn loft for their ceremony. Over the next few months Heather collected items that fit her rustic-elegant theme. It was a labor of love as she acquired books, silver tea service pieces, brass candle sticks, milk glass vases and jars. She imagined a dramatic long head table in the middle of the room and clustered flower arrangements on the guest tables. Marissa of Foxglove & Yarrow absolutely brought this vision to life. The florals were spot-on. It wasn’t until about seven weeks before the wedding that KJ & Co. came on board. I met with Heather and we discussed the theme she had in mind and how we could continue it, along with elements she had already selected like the flowers and the invitations, also by Foxglove & Yarrow. The look was rustic to suit the barn, but more casually-chic than country, nothing too fussy. Colors were soft and light — all-white linens and muted tones of peach, pale pink and white for the florals.

The day of the wedding started out with terrible gray clouds and pouring rain. Since the ceremony and reception were indoors, thankfully, the rain had no effect on our plans, but as the wedding planner, I was still devastated. I was so disappointed for Heather and Scott not to be able to take their wedding photos outside. They were so excited about the grounds at the park and all the neat buildings. As we unloaded in the rain at the venue, I continued to worry about the weather and all the guests making the walk from the parking lot in a downpour. Amazingly, the weather cleared up shortly before Scott and his groomsmen arrived. It turned out to be an wonderfully clear afternoon and evening. I was both relieved and pleased. As you can see, they got their gorgeous outdoor photos after all. The bride walked down the aisle to her cousin playing his acoustic guitar accompanied by her sister singing. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed martinis, hors d’oeuvres and lawn games, as well as horse and carriage rides around the property.

I loved some of the more non-traditional elements that Heather had chosen, such as the pie and sweets table instead of wedding cake. We brought this idea to life with a “love is sweet” banner, old window frames for a back drop and lots of levels for display with KJ & Co. cake stands and jars. Guests really enjoyed the chewy cookies, tarts and pie later in the evening. In addition, there was a popcorn machine and barbequed sausages and hot dogs as a late night snack. Also the mini jam jar favours that Heather custom ordered for the guests fit right in on the table. As the evening went on, we opened the large barn doors so guests could see the stars as they danced and enjoy the amazing September weather. Thanks again to Mother Nature for cooperating! Guests further enjoyed a photo booth with Heather’s props and our antique world map as the backdrop. It was an amazing, beautiful day for a gorgeous couple. I can’t thank them enough for letting me be a part of it, or all of the other vendors for their hard work.
