Perth Engagement Session from Marc Ash Photography

At SMP, we absolutely love a good engagement shoot. Besides getting us super excited about wedding day, it is the perfect excuse to grab your honey and show the world what makes you two, well, you two! This couple takes the sweetest pictures together, looking totally natural and totally in love. We adore contrast between the bride-to-be’s feminine white sun dress and the industrial backdrops. Marc Ash Photography captures it all below and much more in the full gallery of photos right here.

From the Bride… James and I met in late 2006 at a cocktail party onboard his submarine, HMAS RANKIN, while it was berthed in Brisbane during its return passage home to Fremantle after a deployment to Hawaii. I was invited by the local reserve cell as I was working for the Port of Brisbane at the time, and James was serving in RANKIN as a seaman officer hoping to obtain his dolphins.

James has since told me that he’d been awaiting his opportunity to pounce from the moment I climbed down the ladder to join the festivities, but it wasn’t until after a tour of the boat some time later, after James’ official duties had wound down, that he and I struck up a real conversation. We hit it off immediately. As all good things must, the cocktail party ran its course, and we had to either part ways or find some other way to keep the fun times going. It didn’t take much to convince the wardroom members to hit the town, and so off we trundled to a local night-spot, where we all had the chance to get to know each other in less formal surroundings. Needless to say, we both wanted to keep in touch after we said goodnight, and so despite the many challenges, we persevered. It took a lot of ups and downs to get to where we are right now. Dating someone in the military is very challenging, and if you can get through the hard times, you can surely assume that you will reap the rewards in the long run.

Until I moved to Perth to be with James two and a half years ago, we had flown thousands of miles, written tons of emails and letters and spent many late nights on the telephone. Was it easy? Hell no! Was it worth it? Absolutely. We can’t wait to get married in May next year! And we’re thrilled we have such an amazing photographer such as Marc. He made our engagement shoot completely relaxed, and it didn’t take long for us to get into the swing of things. One thing we didn’t want was any posed shots; we wanted something completely natural, and we definitely got what we wanted. We had no idea that the photographs would turn out so beautifully. Thanks again for a wonderful day and some great memories to keep forever, Marc!
