Alton Wedding from Mimosa Flower Studio + The Little White Dress

Although I’ve only met this crazy-cool couple through the lens of Click Photography, I’m pretty sure if we crossed paths in real life, we’d be best friends. Their artistic + eclectic style came through in every element of their Alton Mill Arts Centre wedding from the mix-matched chairs from Hazlitt Vintage Rentals to the bold florals from Mimosa Flower Studio. And with the dream team from The Little White Dress on their side, it’s not wonder one detail is even sweeter than the next! Click here for the full gallery.

From The Little White DressWhen I first met with Megan and Cam way back when, they were extremely busy. Both were working crazy hours and were involved in a ton extracurriculars, not to mention that Megan was gearing up for her final PhD defense, which took place just a few short weeks before the wedding! Needless to say, they really didn’t have much time to dedicate to planning a wedding. They also had nothing holding them to one specific area or any time of the year for that matter, so the options were endless! I could tell right off the bat that Megan and Cam were not your traditional couple. They valued some traditional components, but if they were sure about one thing, it was that they did not want a “cookie cutter” wedding. And their wedding was ANYTHING but cookie cutter. We surprisingly didn’t have to research or visit very many venues before we settled on the historic Alton Mill. The venue and surrounding grounds are absolutely stunning. They wanted a fun, artsy, unique, eclectic wedding day that truly showed off their quirkiness as a couple and their genuine love for one another.

Once we started bringing vendors on board, I immediately started referring to them as “the dream team,” and on the wedding day they were literally a DREAM to work with! The theme started to come out in the invitation design process with Little Details when orange, purple and red were decided upon as the primary colors for the wedding color scheme! They were vibrant, fun, and so true to Megan and Cam’s personalities. And the theme took even further shape once we confirmed a rental of 150 vintage chairs from Hazlitt Vintage Rentals. Meeting with Mimosa Flower Studios became the “turning point” for our wedding planning process when all of the loose ends and the seemingly haphazard ideas started to finally make sense. Jennifer took all of the inspirations and suggestions that had come up in previous discussions and took them to a new level. We wanted to showcase the beauty of the flowers and décor without competing with the beauty of the venue itself. The bold colour scheme was absolutely perfect to offset the natural gray tones of the stone surrounding the Alton Mill. Jennifer knew immediately that she wanted to bring in her custom-made tree sculpture as the focal point of the reception space. The flowers were varying shades of orange, red and purple, with hints of green foliage and butter yellow to break up some of the vibrancy a little bit. They were absolutely spectacular. Even the catering had personality! Mama and Papa Catering brought so much style and fun to the meal. They helped to enhance the theme even further by serving their bread in a rolled down paper bag and serving dessert in miniature mason jars, among other adorable little touches. And The Cake Museum created such an incredible cake, incorporating the bride’s quirky adoration for bugs and insects coupled with the nature component surrounding the Alton Mill venue. It was yet another piece de resistance to add to the day!

I was so excited to be a part of this wedding as it was so personal and heartfelt. Everything that could be personal was personal – adorable little quotes were place in appropriate locations everywhere throughout the venue, miniature canvas paintings custom-done by a local Kitchener-Waterloo artist were the guest favors, shakers and kazoos had dinner’s menu printed on them, live music by a friend of the couple provided entertainment from the ceremony through cocktails and throughout dinner, and a “paint by numbers” guest book of one of their favorite paintings was a huge hit! Everything showcased a little bit about Megan and Cam, and that is exactly what they wanted.
