Larkspur Wedding at Crooked Willow Farms by Angie Wilson Photography

If you are a SMP regular, you know that we get all giddy when we lay eyes on a party filled to the brim with personality. When we feel like the couple really achieved the task of hosting a wedding that is 100% them – well, my loves, this is just such fête. It’s adorable down to the very last detail, and it was all captured beautifully by Angie Wilson Photography – making for one gallery that should not be missed!

From the Bride… My husband and I got engaged on New Year’s Eve a year and a half before our wedding. Immediately, I began gathering inspiration and ideas, trying to put all the pieces together to create a wedding that truly reflected us as a couple. We wanted a fun, fresh, light-hearted affair. We found our venue first: the magical Crooked Willow Farms. It is located in such a gorgeous part of Colorado, and we loved that we could change up the location of each part of the wedding. We met Angie Wilson a few weeks after finding the venue and knew she was the perfect photographer for us. She was fun, energetic and had similar philosophies on what makes wedding photos special. My husband and I are probably the most awkward photo subjects (posing just doesn’t come naturally to us), but she made us feel relaxed and kept us laughing the whole day.

I have a huge love for crafting and I wanted a big part of the wedding to be DIY. Early on, I decided I had to have white milk glass — a lot of it. We scoured for months through antique malls and estate sales gathering all we could find. Around the same time we decided on having a cake at each table instead of a large cake or dessert bar. I thought finding twenty milk glass cake stands would be easy, but I was so wrong! I ended up finding an ample amount of milk glass candle stick holders and cups and glued plain white plates to the base of them. They turned out perfect! We spent a lot of time on the table numbers, stenciling the numbers on to fabric, then putting them in frames from IKEA. I love paper goods, so designing all the menus and programs was a blast! Cutting all of them out by hand, however, was not so much fun. The weekend before the wedding we made and bagged 150 chocolate mustaches (we love all things mustache) for favors. Early on, we got a custom, hand-carved wooden stamp of our cartoon selves made on Etsy and incorporated that throughout the wedding. It went on our save-the-dates and was included in our invitations and on our programs too. We even ordered cute washi tape online and made flags for each of the straws that went with our signature cocktail. I definitely went on an emotional roller coaster during planning, especially with the DIY. At some times I thought I was crazy taking on so many projects and trying to execute them all perfectly. Once I realized that every single detail didn’t have to be perfect, everything seemed to fall in to place, and I had a huge surge of appreciation for all the things we had set out to do and accomplished in the end.

My favorite part of the wedding was when we were announced at the reception before our first dance. The amount of love in the room was so incredible and overwhelming. I couldn’t believe we had created a life for ourselves with so many wonderful people in it. When we danced to a cover of “Forever Young” by folk artist Audra Mae, I felt like the luckiest girl ever. The night ended dancing in an open air loft we had lit with market lights. It was a magical combination of the night air, great music (with sweet dance moves and dance offs!) and my our dearest friends and family. It was truly a day I will never forget.
