Well the first day of fall was officially over the weekend, but in my opinion, it’s never too late for a little Midsummer’s Eve wedding inspiration. The sweet love and the magical touch of fairy mischief is good any day of the year, especially when planned & perfected so beautifully by The Bee and The Bobbin. In searching for a fresh new concept for a romantic wedding theme, we began with inspiration from the lush woodland setting of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the color palettes (peaches, reds, golds) of the Pre-Raphaelite art movement. We imagined a couple who were art-savvy, had eclectic tastes, and wanted a wedding that was memorable, dreamy, romantic, and not too cute or saccharine. We were really trying to find the sweet spot where glamorous and rustic overlap, and to use a color scheme that would transition from late summer through to autumn.
The warm golden light of a midsummer evening provided the perfect ambience for this magical shoot in the woodland hills of Escondido. Beneath the oak trees, we hung a rustic iron chandelier base from Pow Wow, then covered it with magnolia, fig, and eucalyptus leaves, as well as some deep red and coral blooms. Mason jars have been everywhere this year, and while we didn’t want to do the same old thing, we also knew they were the right thing for the job, so we gave them a graduated glitter job to add a little glimmer to the affair.
We wanted to create a lush and dreamy tablescape that celebrated the season and provided a contrast to the setting. The sequined tablecloth from La Tavola was really the catalyst that drew everything together and tipped the scale from rustic to elegant. Atop that, we laid a runner of fig branches, tucked in some more of those gorgeous red blooms, and laid down vintage china and glassware from Pow Wow.
The finishing touches on the affair were really the little geranium-leaf pound cakes by Cake Ball Love. Pam had these lemon geraniums growing in her backyard, and we’d been talking about fun things to do with them culinarily, and when we hit on the idea of baking them into little individual pound cakes, we knew we were onto something. Not only were they beautiful and perfectly suited to the theme, they tasted AMAZING.
The dress from Lovey by Isha lent a little “goddess” flair to our bride, and the paper suite from Paper Scissors Print really tied the event together.
This shoot is the product of a lot of labor and love from an amazing team of vendors. Once the theme was out there, each team member really brought their best to the table, and the result really sparkled with the subtle magic we were hoping for.
