Backyard Pigeon Lake Wedding from Heart+Sparrow Photography

This beautiful wedding is all about family ties! With the bride wearing her mother’s wedding gown, this lovely couple was married at a family lake house with a bunch of personal details and touches handcrafted by loved ones. Champagne toasts, a dapper groom and groomsmen, along with a delectable table of sweets are making me fall in love with the vintage elegance of all of it! Many thanks to Natalie Andrusiak Photography for capturing everything in the full gallery of photos right here.

From the Bride… Dylan and I began dating six years ago, and over the past four years, we’ve spent many months living across the world from one another. Needless to say, planning a wedding between Europe and North America made some decisions more complex! However, the location choice for our wedding was an easy decision, as I had always dreamed of having my big day at my parents’ lake house in Pigeon Lake, Alberta.

We wanted to have a wedding that felt exactly like us, and we drew inspiration from a romantic, vintage, relaxed aesthetic. So having a lakeside, champagne-toasted celebration in the backyard of the cottage with our closest family and friends was perfect for us. We held our reception near the ceremony at the boutique hotel where all of our guests stayed for the weekend. I wore my mother’s wedding gown, and my husband wore a tailor-fitted black suit. Our wedding party made our day so special, looked wonderful, kept us laughing and kept our feet on the ground all day.

In crafting our relaxing wedding day we had many DIY projects that called for the help of our creative friends and family in the days leading up to the wedding. From the save-the-dates and the centerpieces, to the candy table, we had so much fun making and decorating.  A piece of advice: choose a few specific details or pieces to “style” or add flair to. I tried to add vintage flair to everything, and it became over whelming at points!

We could not have imagined such a smooth, perfect and enjoyable day. Our photographer made us feel at ease all day and was able to capture very special, intimate moments. A local restaurant (a longtime favorite of ours), catered the evening with organic, locally grown food. Our family and wedding party made us feel so loved; gave wonderful, heartfelt and hilarious toasts; and helped us to celebrate our marriage in the precise style that we had planned.
