Vermont Wedding at The Hawk Inn from Joyelle West Photography

I love the bright and bold colors that this couple chose for their outdoorsy, Vermont nuptials. Everyone looks absolutely ecstatic to be at this wedding, and it’s totally contagious. My favorite part? Those drop dead gorgeous Shoshanna stunners, also known as the bridesmaid dresses. Seriously beyond. That is one lucky lineup of lovelies! Thank you, Joyelle West Photography, for capturing every bright bit for us to enjoy right here in the full gallery of photos.

From the Bride… Eric and I grew up only a few miles apart in the Boston area. We met and got engaged in NYC, but we decided early on that a more rural Vermont setting would allow us to hold the wedding we both envisioned. The Green Mountain State spoke to our shared love of the outdoors; its open fields and just-far-enough-away-but-not-too-far location presented a canvas on which we could plan a weekend-long celebration that would allow us to spend plenty of time with our family and friends. We fell in love with Hawk Inn in Plymouth, Vermont, on our first day visiting venues. Even under late spring snow cover, Hawk’s crisp white buildings and valley setting radiated northern New England charm. Equally important, the Inn’s staff quickly put us at ease with warm smiles and a promise to turn the inn into “our own backyard for the weekend.” When that weekend finally did arrive, our guests filled all 50 rooms at the inn along with several rental houses on the property.

The meadow where we held the ceremony and reception looks out over woods of full green trees, so we selected a palette of bright colors – especially orange – to pop against this backdrop of greenery. I fell in love with the orange and navy patterned Shoshanna dress when I first saw the collection online and, despite agonizing over whether it would be too bold as a bridesmaid dress, I was ecstatic about the choice once I saw it in person! From there our incredible florist, Debbie from Vermont Country Flowers, mixed pinks and yellows into the arrangements, including craspedia boutonnieres for Eric and his groomsman.

I am not naturally creative or artistic, so I relied heavily on Etsy in collecting the details for our wedding day. From save-the-dates and invitations to ring bearer ties, my veil and jewelry, Etsy’s talented vendors were there to help – my friends joked that I was a walking advertisement for Etsy by the time the wedding came around. DIY projects included the programs and escort card board (both inspired by SMP!), as well as burlap table runners cut from large rolls ordered from Save on Crafts. We decided to forgo a wedding cake and served Ben & Jerry’s ice cream in Boston Red Sox helmets and with cookies from Momofuku Milk Bar in NYC to pay homage to the two cities most dear to us. We tried to support local Vermont vendors as much as possible by including food from Vermont and serving beer from the nearby Long Trail Brewing Co. at the reception. One “import,” however, was our Boston-based photographer, Joyelle West, who captured the day better than we could have imagined!
