From the Bride… Jamie and I were looking for a venue that was rural and a little rough around the edges where we could host our handmade wedding celebrations. Byron View Farm fit the bill perfectly, and we knew it as soon as we arrived to view the property. The pretty cottage, grounds surrounded by rolling hills (and cows!) and views to the ocean were the perfect backdrop for our laid back late summer wedding. Preparations for the wedding were a true group effort and saw many family and friends involved. From scouring thrift shops for vintage fabric and lace, to collecting postcards for our guests to write messages on, to pouring honey for guest gifts, our wedding was definitely a DIY affair. We were very lucky and so grateful to have so many willing helpers.
Our ceremony was held on the lawn in front of a rustic arbour decorated with the bunting I sewed from vintage fabric. The aisle was flanked by potted flowers that mum and I painstakingly grew in the weeks leading up to the wedding and our hand made floral cushions adorned the guest seating.The celebrations continued under a marquee strung with the same floral bunting and bare festoon lights. We enjoyed an Italian inspired share style feast at two long tables dressed with hessian runners, vintage plates and pretty flowers in decorated glass jars.
The plates were collected from far and wide over the course of the year before the wedding. Family and friends joined in the hunt, combing thrift stores in Tasmania, Melbourne, Port Macquarie, Sydney, Bundaberg and everywhere in between. We ended up with a collection of plates in the same orange, taupe, green and yellow tones as were the theme of the wedding.
When the formalities had concluded it was time to hit the dance floor under the stars where the fun and laughter continued well into the night. We couldn’t have asked for a better end to a perfect day.
