This adorable bride and groom turned their 120 acre property into their dream wedding locale when they just couldn’t seem to find anything that reflected their love of nature. I’m in love with so many touches but my favorite has got to be the sweet woodsy path that led their guests to the ceremony and how they decorated it with pennants and tissue paper poofs. Well done! From the Bride… The Southern Highlands in New South Wales are a dream wedding destination, and we are lucky enough to call it our home. Ivar and I are high school sweethearts and have been together for over ten years. Our dream wedding was always simple — homey, natural, warm and fun! We wanted the atmosphere of a big backyard celebration, and no venue seemed to fit better than our own 120 acre property. We already had so many natural features to decorate the event! We wanted lots of natural colours and textures, so we used antique books, hessian, twine and calico with crisp white linens to modernize the decor. We used natives from our Aunty’s property and-home grown succulents that had a lot of meaning to our family — most of them were handed down from our grandparents gardens. My bouquet was made of succulents and eucalyptus from our property paired with white roses. The groom’s buttonhole was also made out of succulents and natives from our home.
We had no bridal party, but had our little nephew carry his hom made “here comes the bride sign.” We lined the aisle with hessian, small plants and paper heart confetti that we cut out of antique books. Our favours were a hit — they were take-home succulents that we’d propagated ourselves in little glass jars, each with a little antique price tag with our guests’ name for their place setting. The table decorations were slices of a pine tree we’d chopped down, used to hold each table’s banquet of platters and a jar of natives. Our families contributed hours of their time to help make bunting, wreaths and paper chains out of antique books — which looked stunning lining the walkways and helped to create the relaxed atmosphere we really wanted. We made hundreds of white tissue pomanders to soften the ceremony site and create an intimate feeling in the wide, open space. Our cake was a simple two layer of jaffa and white chocolate with strawberries, decorated by us with vintage stamps and succulents. Ivar’s father even built us a rustic bar, which was an absolute favourite of our guests! We used antique furniture we’d picked up over the years to decorate the marquee and built the marquee light features out of twigs and twine the day before the wedding!
It was everything we had hoped for — the personal touches added such emotion to our day. Our cheeks were so sore from smiling, and we could tell our guests felt exactly the same! The blokiest of blokes had red eyes from the happy tears, and we danced the night away with the open bar! We had one more surprise for our guests which we can’t recommend doing enough — a lavish, midnight feast of fresh bread rolls, glazed ham and mustards, perfect for the ride home!
