Chartreuse and orange sodas sipped from retro glass bottles? Sunny, yellow feathers tipped with magenta? Shamrock green rock candy sticks alongside indigo blossoms? Fat marshmallows edged in rainbow sprinkles? Tabletops striped with satin ribbon in royal blue and hot pink? And it’s an engagement shoot? It’s not the typical pastel pink that has characterized the late spring-early summer wedding season of years past. But the color blocking trend, first introduced on the 2011 fashion runways, has found its way down the aisle. Dynamic duos take on a whole new appeal with strategically-placed pairings of bold and bright colors that suggest a playfulness that is impossible to ignore. KC and Bryony Grace, in their engagement session with photographer Kevin Warn, spoke to the avant garde that color blocking suggests — or shouts — as is the case with vibrant hues like these.
Proposal and wedding planner Kendall Rodriguez, event and craft designer Justine O’Neill of Savvy Events and florist Hollee Hammerschimt of Rooted threw caution to the wind when staging this photo shoot. Hollee did an amazing job blending all the brightly colored flowers and feathers, using local farmers market flowers from Temecula and creating the “summer camp” feel for the set. The Yes Girls and Savvy created DIY projects, such as marshmallow strings; fabric fathers; hand-dipped, sprinkled marshmallows; spray-painted feathers; and brightly-colored, cut-out felt designs. The eyes take extra note and linger longer when colors surprise us. It feels cutting edge. We think it looks that way too.
