Okay, so this is like the.best. proposal story ever! This adorable bride-to-be was convinced by her soon to be husband’s friend at Pearl & Peony Event Design that she was needed to model for an engagement photo shoot. She seriously had no clue the entire time until her super romantic, not to mention, clever boyfriend got down on one knee and proposed with the prettiest ring from Tiffany’s. From Teri of Pearl & Peony Event Design… I am a wedding planner who helped my husband’s friend, Eddie, plan a surprise engagement to his then-girlfriend, Monica. I came up with a master plan and asked Eddie what he thought (he had a ring, but wasn’t sure how he was going to pop the question).
While at a brunch with friends, I approached Monica and made up a story (okay, I completely lied) about how I needed a “model” for a photo shoot for my business and blog. I asked Monica if she and Eddie might be interested in “modeling” for me for a styled shoot. Monica jumped at the opportunity and was VERY excited to “help me out.” Monica spent the next few days trying to convince Eddie to participate in the photo shoot (ha!) and he played along like he wasn’t all that interested (get this guy an Oscar!) I told Monica that vendors often trade services, and that I could have her hair and makeup done for free (another lie) Monica (and Eddie) agreed to the shoot, and I started to do what I do best — PLAN! I booked hair and makeup, a photographer, a baker, selected props and started hunting on Etsy. Before the big day came, Monica must have called me a dozen times to ask about all the details — what she should wear, hair up or down, location, etc. At one point, I was certain that she knew what was going on … but luckily Monica is as gullible as she is beautiful. So when the big day came, she was still clueless — thank goodness! So the big day came: April 21, 2012.
When Monica and Eddie arrived at the location, I told them my vision for the shoot (of course, Eddie already knew all of the details) I had a mock picnic set up and said to Monica, “I want the photos to tell a story. I’m going to put a blindfold on you and have Eddie lead you to a surprise picnic.” So the blindfold went on (for the first time) and photos were taken at the mock picnic. While photos were being taken at the picnic, I was setting up the proposal location down the trail. The photographers finished up, and Monica and Eddie started walking down the trail. I had to stop Monica before she got close enough to read the sign that said “Marry Me” … so the blindfold went for a second time. Eddie led Monica down the trail to the little table, and I quickly passed the 2+ carat Tiffany & Co. sparkler to Eddie (it was safe in my pocket prior to the hand-off). At the little table, I asked Monica to slowly remove the blindfold so that the photographers could get some shots, and so that Eddie could have some time to get down on one knee. When Monica removed the blindfold, he proposed! It was beautiful, and we were all crying. I can’t tell you how AMAZING that was to watch — I’m getting chills as I’m typing this!
