Fate totally brought this traveling pair together one night in London and set the stage for their future wedding that included guests from all over the world. They chose the gorgeous Bird in Hand barrel room for their reception and added loads of elements to pay tribute to the groom’s Taiwanese heritage like traditional candies as favors and lots of red for good luck. From Karen Pfeiffer Photography… Amy is originally from the Adelaide Hills, while Chris is originally from Taiwan. Some years ago, they both found themselves living in London, and as luck would have it, ended up in the same place at the same time (as the story goes, both of them were almost not going to go out for the night, but thank goodness they did!) The rest, as they say, is history. Their guest list included friends and family from all over the world: UK, Taiwan, Greece, Tokyo and the US. Amy and Chris’ families are very close-knit, and it was plain to see how important they all are to each other. The speeches were so heartwarming and lovely, and there was a real sense of family throughout the celebrations.
There were also some very special, sentimental things that made Amy and Chris’ day perfect. Many moons ago, Amy showed me a photograph of her Mum on her wedding day, sitting on a swing in the backyard, and she said that she’d love a photo of herself on her own wedding day that was similar to her Mum on the swing. Enter Amy’s Dad, who found the exact kind of swing and lovingly painted and restored it for Amy to have that photograph on her wedding day. With the colour red traditionally meaning happiness in Chinese culture (and symbolising good fortune and joy), Amy and Chris incorporated a lot of it into their wedding. The wedding favours included red and gold packages embossed with a Chinese symbol meaning “double happiness” and inside of them were caramel lollies and a little packet of “grass jelly,” a traditional Chinese dessert (and a favourite of Chris’)
The reception was held in the Barrel Room at Bird In Hand winery and was decorated quite unlike anything I had ever seen before. Amy and Chris have some serious style, and their reception proved it!
