Devils Thumb Ranch Wedding from Love This Day Events + Jamee Photography

When it comes to Style Me Pretty, we think a swooning fit is ALWAYS a good thing. Because our swooning fits just so happen to come about thanks to some of the prettiest (and I mean seriously pretty) weddings. Colorado weddings with Love This Day Events at the design helm, with Jamee Photography behind her magical camera. Swooning fit. An entire gallery of swooning fits, actually.

When I set out to buy a wedding dress one weekend in March I thought I was well prepared. I had read the magazines, researched designers, and had my support staff flown in to take part in the momentous occasion (my mom, my dad, and my best friend). I wanted a traditional, classic, simple lace dress, maybe with cap sleeves. Nothing Disney, nothing big, it was my only ground rule. Matter of fact I declined to try on a few of them along the way. The last dress at the last shop was just that. Disney princess all the way and everyone wanted me to try it on. I assumed only for the mockery of a 6’3 tomboy in this monster of a gown. Nope. It was because it was perfection on a hanger. It slipped on like a glass slipper and felt like the comfiest of jeans. It was, dare I say, my wedding dress. I danced around Elegant Bridal, twirled around like a little girl and giggled with giddy at my own reflection. “The” dress, my dress is Fatima by Enzoani. My reception belt is the Fern belt, also by Enzonai.

I met this dashing tall man on a street corner in St Louis, at least that’s where I physically met him for the first time. We met on Match.com and emailed for a few weeks before our first date on February 14, 2010. Yes, we accidentally went on our first date on Valentine’s Day. It was during the winter Olympics and I’m a big fan of the Olympics so while I was casually watching them and trying to engage in conversation Josh was sure he was bombing the date. After about 3 hours of talking he walked me to my car, in the snow, and offered to clear the snow off for me. He had me then! A sweet kiss goodnight sealed the deal. I called my best friend on the way home to announce my new boyfriend and the man that I was so going to marry!

Josh is from Southern Colorado and I’m from Texas and we live in St Louis, so regardless of where we decided to get married it would be a destination wedding for most of our guests. Since Josh loves the mountains and I prefer the beach, we settled on a mountain wedding with a 5-year vow renewal in Maui. I started looking around at venues fairly casually and shared my search with some of my-coworkers. During lunch one afternoon a girl I work with showed me Devils Thumb Ranch. After about 5 minutes on their website I was sold (yes, despite everyone and my mother telling me to never book a venue without seeing it yourself!). When we did finally see it with our own eyes it was just as perfect.

My top 5 favorite moments were: Having everyone we love in one room to share this moment with us, the love in the air was thick you had no choice but to smile. Our first look, it was adorable. Josh didn’t want to see my dress or know anything about it, so every detail was a secret for over a year. Rumor has it I ran towards him, I disagree since I know I can’t run at altitude, but when I finally got to see him and saw the look in his eyes with me in my dress. It was a perfect moment. All the details: The barn! The mason jars! The linens! The candles and the flowers! Holy Batman! Kara did the most breathtakingly beautiful job transforming the barn into a magical wonderland where flowers and candles rained down from the beams. It was pure perfection. Our vows, the were our words and our silliness. Last, but not least, the fact that at the end of the day I had married the most amazing man I’ve ever known and became a stepmom just in time for Mother’s Day.

My advice to other brides: make the days yours. Don’t do something because you should, make your ceremony, reception, the whole day about what you want it to be. I had bacon for breakfast. I made lame jokes in my vows. We had a wine ritual so that we can share our interests and passion with our guests. This is about your love and your relationship, not all about tradition.
