San Diego Wedding at The Crosby at Rancho Santa Fe by True Photography Weddings

I’m not sure you could dream up a more lovely spot to get married than The Crosby at Rancho Santa Fe.  A gingham + lace theme propelled this adorable bride and her sister (founders of Linen, Lace & Love, a design + lifestyle blog) to craft a charming day complete with ribbon place card frame and the prettiest florals by Blush Botanicals. The creative geniuses at Amorology made the DIY details come to life and True Photography Weddings captured it perfectly. From the Bride… I’m shabby-chic, Brandon is more traditional and clean, so we met in the middle with a “Gingham and Lace” theme.  He’s gingham and I’m lace, and we tied it in throughout…without over doing either (I hope). We wanted it to be clean, classic, and beautiful with a little vintage feel thrown in. We also had a “frames” theme, with the photos, escort card display, the centerpieces in the reception were in empty frames, our frame tree in the ceremony and the favors. We liked the idea of empty frames symbolizing all the future memories we are going to make, and the people who “framed our lives” helping us fill those frames.  I don’t think anyone got that but me, but that’s ok, the frames were pretty.

We put great thought into everything! My sister (Jessica Wheeler Bailey) and I are very craftsy. We made everything for her wedding and almost everything for mine. We are started a decor, design, and lifestyle blog and company called “Linen, Lace, and Love” because we had so much fun creating our wedding decor. The signs, which my artist sister made, were a cute way to direct the crowd across the Crosby to the reception. The car is a 1930 Packard that my dad and his father, Donald Wheeler, restored together. My grandfather passed away three years ago, and it was our way of including him in the ceremony. The Packard was also in my parents’ wedding and my sister’s, so it’s become a family tradition. The scripture on the flowers was from my Auntie Mae, who gave me the page of my favorite Bible verse, pulled out of my Great Aunts, Mother of Pearl Bible that she carried with her down the isle when she got married. The passage is Ephesians 3:20-21. There was also a cross necklace wrapped around my bouquet that was my wedding gift from Brandon, which I now wear every day. The boys had a couple of fun things that Brandon came up with. Their gifts were the striped socks and the gingham pocket squares to tie in our theme. Brandon wore his gingham pocket square to the rehearsal dinner. The escort display was amazing and was a joint effort with Amorology (our wedding planners). Amorology built it, and “Peanut Press” did the graphic design. Our original concept was to do a canape of ribbon with the escort tags woven through the ends that were coming down — my sister and I are drawn to the labor intensive. Amorology came up with the giant frame idea and I loved how it tied into our theme. My sister and I made the guest book table by wrapping books we had in the house with navy paper and then gluing doilies onto them and then stamping books with letters…it was a labor of love, and it turned out really well I think. The table numbers were another labor of love. They took three days, as we hand-stenciled numbers on them, and then glued doilies, put buttons up the backs of all of them, and tied them with a gingham bow.

The wedding day was the most beautiful day at The Crosby at Rancho Santa Fe. We didn’t do a “first look” because we are old fashioned like that, so we waited to see each other. It was the perfect choice. I will never forget walking down the aisle to Brandon.  I was in a dream the whole day. We tented a tennis court (thanks to Classic Party Rentals) for the reception, due to the fact that we needed a larger space for all the people and dancing, and it looked beautiful! Our band Atomic Grove was amazing and the night was perfect!
