This wedding is hiding so many squeals it’s kind of unbelievable. They are hiding behind all the Scottish details (the kilts, the bagpiper, the tartan), peeking out of every single flower from Sweet Pea Flowers. Squeals in the puppies, squeals in the herbs, squeals in the gorgeous downtown Denver locale. Autumn Burke Photography is the lady we deem guilty for all the squeals in the SMP offices this afternoon. And I’m going to guess it will be the squeal heard round the world when you all check out the gallery!

My husband and I met through a mutual friend at a concert in Boulder. We were instantly taken with one another, yet it took a year for him to make that first call. Once he did, we spent every weekend together. Eleven months later, my husband and I took our dogs for a hike at Red Rocks Amphitheater, our favorite music venue, and he completely surprised me by popping the question with a family heirloom sapphire ring.
We took inspiration from my ring and our mutual interests for our Garden Party concept. The colors were soft greens, blues, and lavender and the personal touches had a hint of vintage charm, like the red Radio Flyer that our sweet Ring Bearer pulled down the aisle and the signature Basil Lemonade cocktails served in Mason jars.
The decision to have our wedding in the city as opposed to the mountains was not an easy one. We eventually decided to share the rich history of Denver with our guests and the Grant- Humphreys Mansion was the ideal location. It was built by the first Governor of Colorado and has a grand antique aesthetic which married perfectly with our concept.
We chose to honor my husband’s Scottish heritage with traditional kilts and a bagpiper to lead the men down the aisle. Our guests were guided to their tables by handmade seed boxes containing the name of the herb that marks their table and a sampling of the seeds to plant when they returned back home. We also had an herb scented bar of goat’s milk soap from Beekman 1802 for each guest. We really wanted every little touch to say something about our life together.
Our wedding day was a dream come true. We felt so lucky to have all of our friends and family involved and were so blessed to have such a dream team of vendors to make the magic happen. We truly adore Autumn Burke for being able to capture the energy and emotion with her photography.
