When planning a wedding, a couple can often forget about the little people…children that is! This whimsical wedding brunch photo shoot by Sandra Regier Photography and Hazlitt Vintage Rental is loaded with creative ways (crayons + kraft paper and colorful cupcakes) to keep the kiddos involved! From Hazlitt Vintage Rentals… We were inspired by our early spring weather and chose to create a brunch setting for adults and children too. Our setting was the main dining room at the historic Benmiller Inn & Spa. The corner overlooks a beautiful stream that meanders through cedar trees and the grounds of the inn. The welcome table featured an outstanding display of spring — such a lovely way to greet guests. The florist used four-inch pots of mini-daffodils and ferns, scattered amongst Spanish moss and succulents. The pots are inexpensive and could be readily given to guests. The vintage framed chalkboard and barn board easel made a statement by being surrounding with layers of crates and more pops of yellow from the potted plants and cute-as-pie yellow birds tucked in a root that could be collected from a walk in nature.
Brooke’s soft, upswept hair and gentle makeup touches set the tone nicely for a casual, yet pretty morning celebration. Her bouquet was dripping with succulent nibs attached to grapevine that swirled above a sweet collection of pretty flowers, similar to those in the centerpiece.
Our main table was draped with cream linen and a burlap-inspired overlay. The stunning centerpiece incorporated all our spring colours – mini daffodils, yellow roses, green ferns and hydrangeas, even a nest of eggs. The place settings were enhanced by the use of mismatched vintage plates and saucers with sweet place cards on tea cups. The cream napkins were wrapped with burlap and a succulent. We separated the succulent nibs from one four-inch pot and placed a nib on each napkin ring. The napkin ring was made from a roll of burlap ‘ribbon’ that had wired edges and can be purchased at any florist shop. We cut it, wrapped it around each napkin and nestled the succulent nib on top. The wired edges help to keep the burlap in place and retain its shape. Mismatched vintage wooden chairs were used for the seating and carried over to the children’s table. We added some sweet treats to each place setting, and in keeping with our “bring the outdoors in” theme, the cookies were shaped like bees, caterpillars, ladybugs and butterflies. Fun flower cookies in terracotta pots created the centerpiece at the children’s table. Rather than linen on the children’s table, we used kraft paper and provided little clay pots of crayons. It was a very easy DIY and lots of fun to keep children busy. Kraft paper, small clay pots and crayons can be readily purchased at most craft stores. Sweets aren’t just for kids! If the inn’s tempting espresso and chocolate plate wasn’t enough, cupcakes were on hand too (so easy to pick up and walk around the beautiful gardens with).
