With help from their family, this couple designed their invites, table numbers, programs…you name it! And the result is absolutely fabulous: a formal affair with a personal touch and totally SMP worthy. From the Bride… Elie and I both wanted a short engagement, which meant we only had about six months to plan once we got engaged. Despite having a very traditional Jewish Orthodox wedding, we still wanted to play around on the margins a bit and incorporate as many of our own details into the day as possible. We were incredibly lucky to find amazing vendors in such a short amount of time — especially Ulysses and Jenni at Ulysses Photography, who we found through Style Me Pretty!
Early on, we had found a picture of a Ketubah with the Hebrew calligraphy intertwined, and we used this as the inspiration for our invitations. I loved the idea of our names becoming one to symbolize the start of our marriage. I also loved the font and color palette on the label of one of Elie’s favorite brands of scotch – The Singleton, so we used that in addition to an old Hebrew font. I designed the invitation suite, which included a map highlighting milestones in our relationship — our first date, where we were engaged and the location of the wedding. We also decided to wax seal each envelope, which was a time-consuming task but well worth it. The suite was then letter pressed by the wonderful people at Boxcar Press. Once the invitations were completed, the rest of the theme of the wedding fell into place. My mother painted the flowers, which were used as the backdrop on the table numbers, and Elie wrote the program, which I designed the cover for. We also created signs for all of the bars and the sign-in table and hand-wrote all of the escort cards.
As a fashion designer, I was also very particular about my dress and veil. I ending up adding a custom lace beaded trim to the hem and train of my gown (which led to sequins all over the living room floor the week before the wedding!). I also created my veil after having the same beaded trim added to a very long piece of tulle. Sensing that this would be one of the very few opportunities Elie would ever have to wear a morning suit, he insisted that he and the groomsmen wear them. In order to match the groomsmen, all of the bridesmaids were in floor-length gowns. I wanted them to look more like a bouquet of beautiful flowers instead of all wearing the same dress, so I designed each of them their own skirt based on their specific likes and personalities. I am amazed with how beautifully everything came out. We love looking back on our photos and seeing all of the special details that we were able to incorporate.
