From the Bride… Originally, we thought we were going to elope. We’re pretty private people and both do not seek to be in the spotlight. However, the opportunity we had to fulfill two dreams kept resurfacing: (1) spend time with our closest friends in a fun, warm location, and (2) get all the people we love in one place for a big party. All our decision-making began and ended around these ideas. Once we chose Palm Springs as the location (we love the desert vibe and history, plus it was neutral ground for our Northern California-based families and a fun getaway for our friends), we stalked blogs to see which vendors other people in the area used for their weddings. Because we live in NY and couldn’t meet all of them in person, we had to do a lot of trusting and letting go, which turned out to be a really good thing. All our vendors turned out to be the best, kindest people ever.

The venue and food were two cornerstones. The Frederick Loewe Estate (and everyone who works to manage it) is so, so special. Words cannot describe it, but the place definitely spoke to us —the art, architecture, landscape — it’s magic. We were so happy to be able to hold all the weekend’s festivities there while having a bunch of our nearest and dearest stay with us. Tommy Bahama, our caterer, was also amazing. They have this luxe/relaxed island vibe going on, which is right up our alley, and we worked with them to create a family-style menu that left our guests happy with full bellies. If you ever thought TB was just a clothing brand for people who like to play golf, we challenge you to eat at one of their restaurants immediately.

The most important and most special aspect of our wedding was leveraging the talents all our creative friends. Almost everything was designed, made, set up and performed by us, and we had an army of people the night before and morning of helping us with all the heavy lifting and loose ends. I would certainly not recommend it to everyone for their wedding, but for us, we were in our element. We work with our friends as our creative collaborators for a living, so this is pretty much how we approach everything. It turned our wedding into something that went beyond just being about us. In a way, the execution became a thesis for how we view life and how want to live our lives. The energy of it was real and palpable … people who believe in love and art and creativity, working together to create a beautiful setting in which everyone could observe, reflect, express and just be. To date, this is an accomplishment in which we hold to the highest regard, and our hearts are open to everyone who was a part of it.
