From the Bride… We chose our venue because we loved the art deco feel, and it happened to be big enough for the amount of guests we wanted. Your choices are limited when you get married in December, but I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect feel! It also happens to be the station Greg’s mom’s family came to when they moved from New York to California right after they had come to the U.S. from Jerusalem. Not the reason we chose it but it was added meaning. For our decor, I just love succulents, books and languages. Well, my good friend (and ex-roommate) Tracey Waples (who happens to be a florist) helped me with everything. We met a few times to plan out the design of the wedding, then we got to work. We Mod Podged jars with book pages written in the languages Greg and I speak (Mandarin, French and Spanish). We cut out more book pages to make the banners that went across the manzanita branches. Greg and I cut down the manzanita branches on a couple hikes we went on. We collected old books and jars and then Tracey did the rest by hand — the table numbers, she went to a local place to get all of the succulents, she ordered all of the flowers online and put them together. She was incredible! Our friend, Mark, made our cake — he used a picture Greg’s sister had taken of us and hand-drew it with frosting on the top. My dad’s friend Mike and my friend Evan made the home-brewed beers. My friends at Sally Loo’s Cafe, Jen and Brandon, made our mini pies.
I loved the car ride to the station. Rachel, Laura and I talked and prayed and cried. I loved walking down the aisle and looking at Greg. I’m not a great describer of moments — I just loved the whole day. Greg and I couldn’t stop talking about how perfect everything felt! We both loved that we were able to invite so many people and be surrounded by friends and family. My favorite thing about the wedding details was that everything was so personal and reflected us and our relationship so well. The simple decorations, the wonderful sermon during the ceremony, the music we chose, the home-brewed beer, the mini pies, the Armenian hors d’oeuvres. Everything was so personal, especially since we did a lot of things by hand and what we didn’t do ourselves was done by close friends. I also loved the dancing (of course…). The DJ did a great job of playing a mix of music so that everyone could have a good time.
