Hudson Valley Wedding by Robin Roemer Photography

For this Bride, it all started with a few yards of Dwell Studio fabric. Actually, it probably all started with a ring and undying love between the Mr. and Mrs. But, when it came to designing an elegant, garden-esque affair in Hudson Valley, that pretty toile fabric became the inspiration for a stellar wedding. Steven Bruce Design added just the right touch of yellow and white blooms and Robin Roemer & Chelsea Salyer for Robin Roemer Photography captured it all from cute dog to killer dance moves. From the Bride… I decided to go through our wedding photos today and realized how much fun I had working on some of the wedding projects and how very proud I am on how everything turned out. From having my mother-in-law make our runners from Dwell Studio gray and white birds fabric to ordering hand-stamped silver spoons as our place card holders/favors from a lovely woman on Etsy, it all came together and was worth all the planning and … trial and error.

We chose Buttermilk Falls Inn in Milton, New York, for our weekend wedding venue. We were lucky to have found Buttermilk by having a quick bite at Main Course Catering. We drove to Hudson Valley from Manhattan to look at some other venues. We didn’t love the places we saw and decided to get some lunch nearby, and we stopped at Main Course because of their outdoor seating. We had our dog with us and had lunch on their porch.  While out there, we met Bruce, the owner, and fell in love with him. He was so wonderful and suggested amazing locations for us to check out including Buttermilk Falls Inn. Once we drove up to the location, we knew it was the one.

Our wedding was September 24, 2011. We used grays, yellows and neutrals as our colors and went with a mix of classic and a do-it-yourself approach. The ceremony was outside by one of the ponds, and we had a tented cocktail and reception area looking over the Hudson River. Though it rained cats and dogs all day Thursday and Friday, the skies opened up on Saturday morning and it was a beautiful day for a wedding. We put a lot of work into the decor and it turned out exactly how we imagined. Our florist was great and so creative. We were really on the same page on the look we were trying to achieve. Brian and I also built a photo booth backdrop, which was a lot of fun for our guests, and we have great photos from it. Overall, I would say the I learned a lot about myself while planning the wedding and learned to trust my gut even when going out of my comfort zone.  My dress was something I never imagined wearing but gave me that tingly feeling. Our invitations were another area where I was so nervous to make a decision that was a bit different than what I had ever seen, but I loved the outcome. For our tables, though our caterer thought I was crazy, I just knew the gray tablecloths, white chairs and the Dwell Studio fabric I found was going to look wonderful, and it did.
