Québec City Wedding by Junophoto

Can I just say that I LOVE this dress; loved it since the moment I first laid eyes on it at BHLDN. It’s sparkly, flirty and feminine all at once and suits this Quebec wedding (and this gorgeous red haired Bride) to a T. And the photographs by Junophoto tell a tale of an uber fun couple who are so very much in love and know just how to celebrate that love. See the full celebration right here.

From the Bride… Fall being our favourite season, we decided to get married in October to take advantage of the gorgeous colors and magic light. We picked the venue according to the image we had in mind since the beginning: raw materials, wood, concrete, and big windows to make us feel like the wedding was being held outside (which is impossible in Quebec City in October). Also, as true urban people who don’t even own a car, we wanted the wedding to be really near the old Quebec City. It was important for us to limit guests’ transportation as one of many aspects of a greener event. We chose the Baie de Beauport, a delightful place by St-Lawrence River, with big windows and lots of wood walls, posts and beams. For the menu, we wanted the food to be as local as possible. A big thank you to Chef Arnaud, who was really open to the idea and put a lot of effort into developing a delicious gourmet menu according to this requirement. We served our guests a comfy butter squash potage with beurre noisette, trout gravlax with pistachio, followed by duck confit with locally grown celeriac, parsnip and carrots as the main course.

Being very crafty people, we did a LOT of hand-made projects and used all of our favourite things around the house as part of the wedding decor: white candles in mason jars, little blackboards as table numbers, my collection of vintage tea cups and vases for the floral centerpieces, our kitchen chalkboard in a vintage frame for the menu, a vintage suitcase as a container for guests’ greeting cards and gifts, and finally some leftover black and white striped fabric I had from a sewing project to wrap guests’ cutlery and also to use as a table cloth on our sweetheart table. My favourite project was our paper-made ceremony backdrop, which we used during the cocktail as a photo booth backdrop. As we are surrounded by a lot of talented friends, we asked some of them if they wanted to contribute to the wedding with their unique skill sets. They all said yes: we were delighted. The officiant, the music during the ceremony, the hairdressing, the sweet table, the wedding video, the MC, the DJ, the coordination — almost everything was handled by our closest friends. This gave our day a very personal and intimate touch. It was wonderful and fitted perfectly with the image we had in mind: simple, homey, authentic, and above all, not uptight. The one thing I was stressed out about was to find the perfect photographers. I wanted them to capture candid moments, real emotions and little details in an artistic way. I have to say that I found in Montreal the perfect photography team to do it: Junophoto.

Another thing I am very happy about is my wedding dress. I wasn’t pleased with what local stores were offering, but I kept looking around for a vintage dress with no results. While browsing the Internet, I read that this new stylish store was about to open: BHLDN. On February 14th, I went on the website and fell in love with this gorgeous vintage-bohemian looking dress. As I live in Canada, I had to decide if I was game enough to buy it online, my only option. I’m so glad I did! This dress is amazingly pretty, with gorgeous details and fitted me (almost) perfectly. The bridesmaids chose their own dress since I wanted them to feel pretty and comfortable. My husband chose a very well fitted Zara suit with suspenders and a velvet bow tie. I loved it! My engagement ring is made of a recycled gold ring with a certified conflict-free diamond. My wedding band is a gift from my mother: her own wedding band. It’s such a unique and beautiful ring and so significant to me.
