Kenwood Wedding by Emily Scannell Photography

What do the most beloved weddings ever featured on SMP have in common? Joy. Pure, unabashed, dance like no one is watching Joy. And from the moment that I saw this next little number, I knew that it would be added to that very list. The beloved list. Aside from being quite obviously gorgeous, this particular couple approached their wedding day just as every pair should. With an attention to the people, places and moments they love most. Photographed by Emily Scannell, they crafted a celebration that fit them to a T, with details for days and a sense of happy built into the very structure. From the Bride… My husband and I had known each other for nearly 10 years, having attended the same high school but never dated, due in part to his friendship with my older brother. It wasn’t until years later and a chance encounter that we reconnected and sparks finally flew. After convincing our family and friends that our relationship was the real thing, we escaped to the wine country to get to know each other better. It was at my parents’ wine country vacation home that our love and respect for each other grew, and so exactly three years later, we returned to the very site to show our guests an important piece of our love and to share with them the home that had become our oasis away from city life.

We were determined to make our wedding feel like our own. Everything from the location to our vows to the decor was handmade. My parents redesigned the home’s backyard in order to accommodate our 180 guests. As a recent culinary school graduate and a girl with a HUGE sweet tooth, dessert was incredibly important — the theme of our wedding loosely became Love is Sweet, and I created our wedding cake and the 300 individual number cookie escort cards which also acted as favors. We designed the invitations and created all the table numbers, mismatched table runners and signs. My mom and I collected 150+ pieces of milk glass, which were used for flower arrangements and dessert display. My brother (the same brother that stood in our way in high school) gave us the biggest gift of all and married us in front of closest family and friends. The day brought our entire relationship full circle, which was represented by our love of polka dots that can be seen throughout.

We chose the color yellow to complement the very green backyard and to add an aspect of fun to our wedding day. The polka dots and stripes used in the paper goods and event decor were also meant to be fun and whimsical. At the end of the day, we wanted all our guests to let loose and enjoy our special day as much as us! Many played bocce during cocktail hour, while others sipped on homemade sangria, and of course a wine country wedding would not be complete with lots of local WINE.
