From the bride… We originally wanted to have a beach wedding in Mexico, but it just wasn’t going to be possible because all of our immediate family members wouldn’t be able to attend. So we opted for the next best thing, the location where we had our first date — a hiking trip through Huntsville State Park. The Raven Lodge is a quaint little place looking over the lake with LOTS of character. We wanted to keep it small and intimate, so this was the perfect place for us. I designed everything myself as this was definitely a budget/DIY wedding. I found my dress online on clearance for only $99, so I took it to a seamstress to add lace cap sleeves and a sweetheart neckline to give it a more personalized look. I opted for dried flowers instead of real ones so I could save them to use in our home. I did lots of shopping at thrift stores and resale shops to find vintage glass bottles/rustic decor, and I made all of our banners, cards, signs, and invitations myself (I even made my daughter’s headband/flowers on her dress). We also cut out cost by having family members make all the desserts, and I made customized cards for each one to make sure they got credit for their yummy creation.
All in all, we had a lot of fun planning. And to any brides out there that think there is no way they can plan a wedding in three months – I PROMISE that you can! And I highly recommend choosing things such as colors and décor that will match your home, so nothing goes to waste. With a little help with family and online resources, you can DIY and save lots of money. :)
